International Student Advisor

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking an International Student Advisor for the department of Rutgers Global. The International Student Coordinator (ISC) reports to the Assistant Director for Administration and Special Projects of the Rutgers Global – International Student and Scholar Services office. The incumbent works as a member of the student services team to advise and support international students regarding their immigration status and related matters.

Among the key duties of the position are the following:

• Works as a member of ISSS' Student Services team, providing immigration-related support, advising, and administrative services to undergraduate and graduate international students at Rutgers University.
• Serves as a Designated School Official (DSO), assisting with the processing of SEVIS-related applications and requests, reviewing, updating, and maintaining student records, and issuing immigration documents in accordance with federal regulations and university policies.
• Provides first-level advising to students regarding available programs, services, and resources, referring to specialized advisors and campus support services as appropriate.
• Interacts regularly with students through front office assistance, telephone consultations, workshops, and electronic communications.
• Supports International Student Advisors in a variety of processes, including academic status changes and practical training authorizations, while contributing to student engagement initiatives and collaborating with campus partners on matters affecting international students.
• Provides administrative support for office operations and departmental programs, including international student orientation activities and the development and refinement of office procedures.
• Collaborates cross functionally with other ISSS offices at Rutgers Global as well as other Rutgers staff, schools, departments and outside organizations as needed.
• Performs other duties as required.

Minimum Salary - 59893.480

Mid Range Salary - 73909.480

Maximum Salary - 87925.480

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience - Bachelor's degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates knowledge and understanding of student affairs, student advising and programming in a higher education setting.

Certifications/Licenses

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities - Strong organizational and time management skills. Computer literacy. Good communication skills (written and verbal). Ability to work with multicultural clients, facilitate group presentations, and to navigate various organizational levels. Ability to exercise critical thinking skills to solve problems. Customer service, and problem-solving skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Meticulous attention to detail – accurate data entry and record-keeping skills. Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (specifically Word and Excel), some data-based programs, and proficiency using the internet as a research tool. Interest and commitment to meeting the needs specific to international students. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, collaborate within a team, and work independently, if needed.

Preferred Qualifications - Cross-cultural sensitivity and prior experience living abroad or facility in a second language. Master's degree in student affairs, counseling, international relations, anthropology, area studies, foreign languages or a related field and experience related to working international students. Knowledge of one or more foreign languages. Familiarity with F-1 and/or J-1 regulations and with SEVIS and SEVIS-batch processing software (training will be provided).

Equipment Utilized - Personal computer, web cam, scanner. Primary software to be used: Sunapsis and SEVIS. Microsoft Office Suite. Zoom and WebEx. Email and Calendar (Outlook/Outlook Express). Dropbox. Rutgers Box. Specialized materials: 8CFR and 22CFR (Codes of Federal Regulations). NAFSA Adviser's Manual (federal regulations interpreted in practical terms).

Physical Demands and Work Environment - May need to lift items and physically move materials/supplies during orientation and/or project events.

Special Conditions - May require occasional travel to other Rutgers campuses (Newark or Camden) and some evening and weekend hours for special student programs. In order to qualify for federal agency approval to issue visa eligibility certificates, the successful candidate must have U.S. citizenship or permanent residence.
