Mechanical Engineering Intern

Position Summary:


Assist in the design of mechanical and electromechanical assemblies and components used to manufacture specialized vacuum furnaces. Assist in specifying industrial components including motors, drives, hydraulics, pneumatics, electric actuators, and sensors. Assist in the thermal and mechanical modeling and analysis of new and existing designs.


Job Responsibilities:


/ Assist in the Computer Aided Design (CAD) of subassemblies.

/ Assist in developing new design concepts.

/ Provide engineering department support by generating high quality, accurate technical evaluations and reports of designs utilizing hand calculations, FEA, or other methods.

/ Assist in developing clear and concise engineering specifications for design and/or procurement of subsystems, components, and engineering services.

/ Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:


/ Good working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.

/ Working knowledge of Finite Element Analysis (FEA).

/ Ability to perform heat transfer analysis and energy balance on complex systems.

/ Ability to perform calculations for sizing components like pumps, motors, gearboxes, hydraulic/pneumatic cylinders.

/ Working knowledge of materials suitable for use in high temperature, corrosive environments.

/ Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.

Education and Experience:


/ Currently enrolled in Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in Mechanical Engineering from a four-year college or university.

/ Experience using CAD software, preferably Autodesk Inventor or similarly capable software.

Physical Demands:


/ The employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, bend, hear and talk.


/ The employee is frequently required to use hands.


/ The employee occasionally will be required to reach with hands or arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.


/ The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

/ The work environment is an office setting with periodic need to visit the plant floor.

Salary Description


$20 - $23 Per Hour Depending on Experience
