This is a full‑time position with Los Angeles Unified School District. The ideal candidate holds a bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, or Planning and has at least five years of professional design experience, including three years supporting educational facilities or similar public agency projects. Candidates are experienced in reviewing construction documents, coordinating design disciplines, ensuring code compliance, and using Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, AutoCAD, and Revit. They are organized, detail‑oriented, collaborative, and able to support planning, design, and construction projects while managing multiple priorities. Responsibilities Assist Planning and Development staff by providing support for the planning, design, and construction of educational facility projects. Perform routine procedural work related to the management of Architectural/Engineering contracts and services, and prepare studies and presentations. Read and interpret architectural, engineering, and planning documents. Collect and organize data for reports and presentations. Assist in the preparation of reports and minor project research. Update and maintain project files with technical information. Review plans and design/construction documentation for compliance with applicable LAUSD standard requirements and federal, state, and local codes. Prepare internal documentation for completeness and approval by other District branches (e.g., AE Contracts, AE invoices). Coordinate project activities with other District organizational branches and departments (e.g., Office of the Environmental Health and Safety, A/E Design Services, Maintenance and Operations, Furniture & Interiors Group, Project Execution, Local Districts) to support design and construction administration functions. Participate in community relations and outreach programs to promote understanding and acceptance of District building projects within the community. Perform other related tasks as required. Required Experience Minimum of five (5) years of full‑time paid professional experience working in an architecture and design setting. Experience performing architectural, engineering, or planning design and coordination of design disciplines; conducting surveys and field investigations; and reviewing architectural, engineering, or planning drawings and documentation. Three (3) years of this experience must involve the design, planning, and construction of educational facilities or similar public agency projects. Required Education Graduation from a recognized college or university with a bachelor’s degree in architecture, engineering, or planning. Knowledge & Skills Knowledge of architectural, engineering, or planning terms, concepts, and symbols. Understanding of architectural characteristics of building materials and technical detailing. Research methods and techniques, including planning studies and surveys, determining variables, and developing sources of data. Basic record‑keeping methods. Proficiency with software: Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, AutoCAD, and Revit. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Proficiency in the use of computer database and related equipment. Ability to analyze architectural/engineering/planning problems related to assigned educational facility projects and recommend appropriate and feasible solutions. Interpretation of federal, state, and local codes related to educational facilities. Knowledge of California Department of Education, Division of the State Architect, applicable building and engineering codes, fire codes, and energy codes (e.g., ADA, CA Title 24, CalGreen). Ability to conduct detailed and accurate calculations and surveys. Ability to compile, interpret, analyze, and summarize data and recognize implications of complex documents.
