Instrumentation And Controls TechnicianThe Instrumentation and Controls Technician will report to the Electrical Engineer and is responsible for the maintenance, design, and integration of all process control systems on site, focusing on functional, physical, and electrical components to meet site specifications. This role involves programming PLC and HMI systems, installation and testing of electrical equipment, ensuring safety and efficiency in production processes, and maintaining communication across departments to address operational needs. The schedule for this position is 14 days on at the remote mine site located about 45-miles north of Juneau, accessible only through company transportation, and 14 days off.Responsibilities:Stop work for safety concerns, and abide by safety best practices, policies and procedures.Wire, terminate, and test 120v control systems and instrumentations panels per approved schematics.Install, configure, calibrate, and troubleshoot various instrumentation including pressure transmitters, flow meters, belt scales, temperature transmitters, valve controllers, etc.Design and implement PLC code to support the site's safety, environmental, and production needs.Support production goals and fixed plant maintenance needs as they arise for control systems modifications.Assist with site-wide equipment specifications as they relate to all aspects of the control systems.Program and configure PLC/HMI/DCS/SCADA systems as needed by production.Design and implementation of network diagrams, loop diagrams, P&ID control depictions, Controls Narrative, and Cause and Effect.Maintain backup files for PLC and HMI programs in the event of a failure to protect against costly downtime.Install, commission, and troubleshoot Variable Frequency Drives and Soft-Start equipment.Install and maintain control network equipment as needed.Ability to make sound decisions during high-stress situations.Assist the Electrical Department with equipment installation and troubleshooting as needed.Ability to work overtime as needed to support production down days, equipment failures/troubleshooting, call-outs, and project commissioning.Ability to maintain a high level of productivity with limited supervision.Perform other duties as assignedRequired Qualifications & Skills:Ability to work safely and promote safe behavior in others.High school diploma or equivalent.Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and a team-oriented mindset – being respectful, reliable, and easy to work with is just as important as technical skills.Willingness to assist others, adapt to changing conditions, and proactively solve problems in a dynamic and inclusive work environment.Excellent safety, attendance, and work records.Ability to work with minimal supervision and communicate clearly (verbally and in writing) with all mine site personnel.Sets high standards for self and others, builds trust, and takes accountability.Preferred Qualifications & Skills:Instrumentation Technician Certification or equivalent work experienceKnowledge of PLC, HMI, DCS or SCADA systemsProgramming knowledge a plusPreference given to Alaska residents.Physical Demands:This position requires the ability to safely perform work in a mining environment, including, but not limited to:Working outdoors in a range of environmental conditions, including rain, snow, ice, wind, cold temperatures, and periods of limited daylight.Frequent standing and walking on uneven surfaces on surface and underground.Climbing stairs, ladders, and escapeways.Lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds often and up to 50 pounds on occasion, pushing and pulling equipment or materials up to 100+ pounds, bending, kneeling, crouching, and reaching.Employees must be able to wear required PPE, including respiratory protection when applicable, work in varying environmental conditions, and participate in emergency response and evacuation procedures.Mine Site Information:The Kensington Mine is located within the historic Berners Bay Mining District, a region with deep mining roots that date back over a century. The mine site is a remote camp located approximately 45 miles outside of Juneau, Alaska. Transportation to and from the mine site happens twice per day (once in the morning and once in the afternoon) and takes approximately 1.5 hours each way. To get to the mine site, employees board a bus in Juneau that transports to the Yankee Cove dock (~30 minutes), then board a boat (~45 minutes), then board another bus to the camp area (~15 minutes). Food and housing is provided on-site to employees.
