Assistant Professor (Tenure Track)

In the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, we are hiring a full‑time, permanent faculty member for a tenure‑track Assistant Professor position. This role welcomes early‑career scientists seeking to establish a basic science research program in vision science and report directly to Dr. Benjamin J. Frankfort, Chair of Ophthalmology. Responsibilities Establish and maintain an independent research program in vision science. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams within the School of Medicine and across the university. Mentor junior learners, including graduate students and postdoctoral scholars. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in a related field and a PhD, MD, MD/PhD, or equivalent degree. Strong potential to establish or establish an independent research program in vision science. Track record of competitive research funding, with active funding preferred. Consistent record of high‑impact publications and presentations demonstrating creativity and the ability to pose fundamental scientific questions. Experience mentoring junior learners; top candidates have experience managing personnel and budgets.
