Job Description

\n

We are seeking a senior Go engineer to support complex third-party open-source package upgrades within a large monorepo environment. You will own the engineering process from package assessment and version changes through dependency remediation, build and test stabilization, validation, and change submission.

\n

This is a highly hands-on engineering role focused primarily on upgrading existing packages and ensuring the existing test suites and applicable presubmits continue to pass . Creation of new unit or integration test suites is not required.

Key Responsibilities

\n

Golang Development & Package Upgrades

\n

\n

  Assess assigned packages, dependency trees, API changes, build impact, and upgrade complexity

\n
• \n

  Upgrade Go modules and package versions while managing version changes and local patches

\n
• \n

  Reapply, update, or safely retire local patches as required

\n
• \n

  Resolve breaking API changes introduced by upgraded libraries

\n
• \n

  Update downstream callers directly affected by package upgrades

\n
• \n

  Analyze complex dependency relationships and package compatibility issues

\n

Build & Test Troubleshooting

\n

\n
• \n

  Diagnose and remediate Go and Bazel build failures

\n
• \n

  Troubleshoot existing test failures related to package upgrades

\n
• \n

  Investigate compiler, linker, build, test, and runtime failures

\n
• \n

  Troubleshoot applicable CI and presubmit failures

\n
• \n

  Validate that upgraded packages successfully build and existing tests pass

\n
• \n

  Isolate issues introduced by dependency or version changes

\n

Engineering Tools & Automation

\n

\n
• \n

  Maintain and troubleshoot Copybara configurations and source synchronization issues

\n
• \n

  Use approved internal tools and reusable automation to accelerate dependency analysis and failure triage

\n
• \n

  Develop repeatable approaches for investigation, validation, and evidence collection

\n
• \n

  Support efficient engineering workflows for large-scale package migration activities

\n

Change Management & Documentation

\n

\n
• \n

  Submit review-ready change lists with clear technical rationale and validation evidence

\n
• \n

  Document package versions, dependency remediation, validation results, and patch status

\n
• \n

  Maintain traceable migration records throughout the upgrade process

\n
• \n

  Document and escalate material package deviations and external blockers

\n
• \n

  Identify cross-product dependency impacts and communicate them to appropriate stakeholders

\n

Collaboration & Delivery

  Partner with reviewers, engineering teams, and language subject-matter experts

  Communicate technical issues and blockers clearly and proactively

  Provide actionable evidence when escalating complex issues

  Ensure clean handoffs and capture reusable technical learnings

Qualifications

\n

  7+ years of software engineering experience

\n
• \n

  Strong hands-on Golang / Go development and debugging experience

\n
• \n

  Strong understanding of Go modules and semantic versioning

\n
• \n

  Experience with transitive dependency resolution and package compatibility

\n
• \n

  Strong knowledge of idiomatic Go and API refactoring

\n
• \n

  Hands-on experience with Go build and Go test

\n
• \n

  Experience with Bazel and large-scale or monorepo-based build environments

\n
• \n

  Proven ability to troubleshoot compiler, linker, build, test, and runtime failures

\n
• \n

  Experience with Git-based development, code reviews, and change management

\n
• \n

  Experience resolving merge conflicts and managing local patches

\n
• \n

  Strong Linux and scripting skills
