Traffic Monitor (PT) 7-9am / 2-4pm daily

Traffic MonitorTo monitor, direct, and react to real-time traffic flow and pedestrian foot traffic during arrival and dismissal times on campus to ensure the safe transit of students and staff.Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent Experience: Experience preferred but not essential Ability to multi-task and communicate/give direction to multiple individuals on campus simultaneously Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Must acquire a thorough understanding of traffic patterns and flow on the WCSD campus. Must possess the visual and auditory acuity necessary to identify vehicles and ascertain movement. Ability to operate a hand-held radio device and/or mobile phone and/or flashlight device and/or megaphone device. Ability to stand upright for extended periods in the outdoors including inclement weather.Functions/Duties/Responsibilities: Stand in designated area(s) through assigned shift during arrival and dismissal at one or more buildings and one or more locations. Direct, regulate, and prioritize the movement of buses and other vehicular traffic around campus. Learn, interpret, apply, and explain rules, procedures, and regulations as necessary. Apply relevant traffic laws and guidelines to the regulation of vehicular flow. Assess traffic flow during peak times and direct vehicles to enter/exit locations while allowing for minimum wait time. Regulate parental vehicular traffic during drop off/pick up times. Assist students and other individuals in the safe and orderly crossing at intersections. Communicate traffic flow rules and procedures and pedestrian crossing rules, procedures, and locations to students, parents, and staff as necessary. Correct and report any unsafe conditions to administration and/or security personnel. Use hand signals and/or hand-held signage to perform duties and communicate. Assist pedestrians with alternative detour routes during any campus construction. Wear appropriate WCSD-issued outerwear attire and/or safety vest for identification purposes. Work independently and demonstrate good decision making skills. Observe situations and accurately determine an effective course of action.Physical Demands: The Traffic Monitor position requires the individual to stand upright in the outdoors in all types of weather conditions, including but not limited to rain, snow, sleet, windy conditions, seasonal temperature variations, and direct sunlight. The employee must be able to lift and manipulate district-issued signage and road closure devices such as barricades and gates. The employee is required to stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear. The employee may regularly lift and/or move 25 pounds or more. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to hear (40-decibel maximum) and verbally communicate.Work Environment: The noise level will range from quiet to loud, depending on the time of day. This is an outdoor position and specific environmental variables are subject to seasonal weather conditions. Physical Requirements which are requisite to complete the functions/duties, responsibilities listed above: Ability to stand, bend, stoop, sit, lift, reach, communicate (vision, hearing, and speech), carry, or convey sufficient weight to safety and effectively carry out functions, duties, and responsibilities. Ability to independently ambulate in and around school buildings and office areas. Ability to travel to and from assigned work locations without employer support.
