Medical Assistant - FloatDivision: Ambulatory OperationsWork Arrangement: Onsite onlyLocation: Texas Medical Center, Houston, TXSalary Range: $47,372 to $55,731FLSA Status: NonexemptWork Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.Job DescriptionThe Medical Assistant (MA)-Float Pool position is a float position that the MA will be assigned to various BCM clinics/locations. The MA should be proficient in taking vital signs, giving medications by various forms in their scope of practice, EMR, phone etiquette, flexible, and a fast learner. This position requires someone who is flexible, eager to learn, excellent communication skills, great customer service skills, great work ethics and a passion for helping others. Proficient in EMR systems preferably (EPIC). Comfortable with standing and moving around for long periods of time.Job DutiesPerforms routine patient care responsibilities such as taking vital signs, venipuncture (blood draws), collect specimens, EKGs/ECGs, and laboratory Point of Care Testing.Collects patient health history, performs medication reconciliation and enters information in EPIC.Administers injections and medications as directed by medical provider.Notes the chief complaint/reason for patient's visit.Prepares equipment, examination rooms and cleans instruments as directed.Assists with medical procedures and exams as needed.Instructs patients on general care and medicine procedures.Maintains patient and service rooms in a neat and orderly condition.Schedules patient tests, procedures, and appointments.Conducts patient outreach phone calls and post visit follow-ups.Uses the Ring Central-Live Answer to answer clinical calls (department specific).Responds to routine patient phone calls and MyChart messages and routes to RN, ACP or Physician as needed.Performs clerical/administrative responsibilities such as filing and/or scanning patient medical records, obtaining lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, and referral information.Takes inventory of clinic supplies and orders supplies as needed.Sorts and distributes clinic mail and medical records to the appropriate clinic personnel.Minimum QualificationsHigh school diploma or GED and completion of a Medical Assistant Training program through an accredited institution. Two or more years of relevant experience as a Medical Assistant. Current certification as a Medical Assistant through an accredited professional organization (AAMA, AMT, ARMA, NCCT, NHA, NAHP, AMCA, AAH AAMP, or NPS). Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through American Heart Association.Work Authorization Requirement: This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
