Technical Accounting DirectorThis position will be based on-site in Las Colinas (Irving), Texas. This is a highly visible role within our corporate finance organization and is responsible for leading key aspects of our external financial reporting (SEC reporting of 10-Ks and 10-Qs, as well as support of Investor Relations), technical accounting and consolidation infrastructure.As we continue to mature our reporting environment, this role will partner closely with the CAO, CFO, FP&A, tax, legal, revenue cycle management, regional CFOs, regional accounting, external auditors and other business leaders to strengthen reporting quality, disclosure readiness, close discipline and internal controls.Essential Job ResponsibilitiesSEC Reporting & DisclosureLead SEC reporting, preparing Forms 10-K and 10-Q, and supporting Investor Relations.Partner with the CAO, legal, FP&A, tax, treasury, internal audit, external advisors and other stakeholders to support disclosure governance, cross-functional review of external reporting materials, reporting consistency and audit-ready documentation.Support preparation of backlog, bonding capacity, and other construction-specific investor disclosures in coordination with Investor Relations and surety/bonding partners.Technical Accounting & GAAP ResearchPerform technical accounting research and prepare accounting analyses and whitepapers for complex U.S. GAAP matters, including revenue recognition (over-time revenue recognition), business combinations, purchase accounting (reviewing valuation reports and preparing opening balance sheets), goodwill and long-lived asset impairment, share-based compensation, leases, debt and equity transactions, segment reporting, EPS considerations, related-party matters and new accounting standard adoption.Long-Term Contract Accounting & Percentage-of-CompletionOwn technical accounting for long-term, fixed-price and unit-price construction contracts under ASC 606 (including assessments of significant contracts), including percentage-of-completion measurement, estimate-at-completion (EAC) updates, and variable consideration.Review contract asset and contract liability positions (costs and estimated earnings in excess of billings, and billings in excess of costs and estimated earnings), including retainage classification and aging.Advise regional finance teams on claims, unapproved change orders, and contract modifications for proper recognition timing and disclosure.Maintain the anticipated loss (loss-contract) accrual policy and monitor projects for early identification of loss positions.Business Development & Transaction SupportProvide accounting support to the business development team and other strategic initiatives, including evaluation of proposed transactions, acquisition-related accounting considerations and related financial reporting impacts.Lead purchase accounting and integration considerations for tuck-in and roll-up acquisitions, a core component of the company's growth strategy.Evaluate joint venture, consortium, and teaming arrangements for proper consolidation and variable-interest-entity (VIE) determination.Reporting Process, Controls & AnalyticsPartner with accounting, FP&A and other finance leaders to improve reporting automation, data integrity, dashboarding, financial reporting analytics and scalable reporting processes.Continue development of accounting policies, internal control documentation, reporting processes and financial statement support designed to be scalable and audit-ready.Fixed Assets & Equipment AccountingEnsure proper lease accounting (ASC 842) for equipment, real estate, and job-site facilities.Provide technical accounting oversight for the company's owned and leased equipment fleet, including componentization, useful-life assessments, and impairment considerations.External Audit ManagementServe as a key liaison with external auditors, managing audit requests, PBC deliverables, issue resolution, reporting timelines, audit-ready support for significant accounting and disclosure matters and recurring audit status meetings during quarterly and annual reporting cycles.ConsolidationPartner with FP&A on implementation of consolidation system and manage monthly consolidation (future state).Contract AdvisoryAct as an advisor from the financial perspective on any contracts (including leases) into which the company may enter.Team Leadership & Special ProjectsSupervise and mentor staff to develop their accounting and problem-solving skills.Manage or participate in special projects as needed.Perform other duties as assigned/requested.Key QualificationsBachelor's degree in accounting and 7-10 years of progressing accounting, financial reporting, technical accounting or audit experience required.Public-company reporting, IPO readiness or transaction-readiness experience strongly preferred, including preparation or review of SEC-style filings, MD&A, earnings release materials, disclosure controls, governance routines, and public-company-quality financial statements.Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, financial statement preparation, consolidations, technical accounting, and financial reporting controls.CPA required; Big 4 or national public accounting experience preferred.Experience with Workiva, Active Disclosure or similar external reporting platforms strongly preferred.Experience with OneStream, HFM, Hyperion Retrieve, Oracle EPM or other consolidation and reporting tools preferred (for future state).Familiarity with construction industry job-cost and ERP systems (e.g., Viewpoint, CMiC, Procore, Oracle Textura) preferred.Ability to prepare executive-level and audit committee materials, including summaries of technical accounting matters, reporting risks, audit status, internal control themes and key financial reporting judgments.Strong attention to detail, organizational discipline, and ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced reporting environment.Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex accounting, financial reporting and U.S. GAAP matters to executive leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.A decisive individual who possesses a "big picture" perspective and is well versed in accounting and finance.Ability to build effective working relationships across diverse teams and leadership styles.Education:Bachelor's
