Medical Assistant/Receptionist - 4507US:CT:Essex | Clinical Support Services | Part Time Non-Benefit EligibleDescriptionPosition HighlightsDepartment: MH ConciergeHours: 20.00 per weekPosition SummaryThe Receptionist Medical Assistant is the central point of communication among patients, providers and other members of the health care team and an integral part of the patient care team. Under the direction of the provider, the Receptionist MA performs patient customer service and clinical duties consistent with the scope of the MA position and the needs of the practice/modality, and assists the providers to assure each patient is provided timely and effective care. The Receptionist Medical Assistant performs general clerical or administrative duties as directed and maintains strict patient confidentiality at all times.Under direct supervision:Greets patients and responds to inquiries providing appropriate customer serviceAssists patient with practice/office-specific registration processesEnters patient demographic and/or insurance information into appropriate electronic medical record (EMR) system for tracking, billing or other purposesAnswers phones and responds to patient inquiries appropriately; addresses patients needs based on the scope of the position and clinical setting. Appropriately triages calls, referring to providers as necessary.Completes appropriate work items utilizing EMR system, to include patient follow-ups, pre-registrations, referrals, insurance authorizations, and other matters as neededUnderstands and utilizes EMR system consistent with role, abides by all federal laws and organizational privacy policiesPerforms administrative and other duties consistent with position and needs of officeEscorts patients to the exam room. Interview patients to verify reason for visit, obtain medical information, measure patient's vital signs, height and weight.Document all patient information obtained in the Electronic Health Record according to policies and procedures for EHR use.Confirm and record allergies, current medications strength and frequency, refills required and pharmacy of choice.Assure all documentation, results, reports pertinent to the visit are available to the provider for review with the patient.Assist the provider with patient exams and procedures as directed.Perform phlebotomy as needed. Collect blood and other specimens, label and prepare appropriately for delivery to the lab. Document these procedures in the EHR.Perform routine in-office laboratory tests as needed. Document the results in the EHR.Perform routine or diagnostic testing such as EKG and spirometry, providing reports to the provider for review.Prepare treatment rooms, keeping them clean and stocked.Clean and sterilize instruments. Dispose of contaminated supplies appropriately.Maintain effective and organized systems to ensure timely workflow for patients and providers.
