JOB DESCRIPTION

The person in this position will maintain and efficiently manage the school location to optimize its usefulness and cleanliness, while handling minor repairs and addressing safety hazards not requiring a skilled tradesman. Other duties will be performed as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

1. Minimum one year of previous and successful experience as a Building Custodian or equal experience as approved acceptable by the Kennewick School District.
2. Demonstrated the high degree of skill and knowledge expected of a Building custodian in the responsibilities listed under the headings "Essential Duties and Responsibilities", "General Requirements", Physical Demands", and "Work Environment".
3. Willingness to comply with district board policies and established programs.
4. Evidence of ability to be a self-starter.
5. Evidence of ability to operate computers in order to enter timecard information and work orders in the Computerized Maintenance Management System. (CMMS).
6. Must demonstrate sufficient command of the English language to communicate verbally and in writing as well as follow directions/ instructions. Must be able to perform basic math calculations.
7. Must uphold board policies and follow administrative procedures.
8. Must take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
9. Must attend in-service trainings or other meetings as required, as well as attend any training as directed by management.
10. Evidence of ability to assess and correct issues involving safety.
11. Evidence of ability to establish and maintain a tactful, cooperative and effective relationship with students, parents, staff, fellow employees and management.
12. Evidence of ability to approach assigned work in a professional manner, working toward the common goal of teamwork, pride in service delivery and continuous improvement.
13. Evidence of ability to organize and prioritize in order to meet the District's needs and deadlines.
14. Physically able to do the required work, including: heavy and sustained lifting of more than 35lbs., squatting, bending, carrying, climbing of ladders, and other functions that are physically difficult and demanding.
15. Show a history of dependability and punctuality, along with positive evaluations and recommendations.
16. Demonstrate evidence of good attendance.
17. Be available to perform overtime for after school and weekend activities as needed.
18. Demonstrate the skills necessary to refinish classroom resilient floors, carpets, gym wood floors and be physically capable of performing these tasks.
19. Must be able to use basic computer programs to maintain records, enter timecard information and read and respond to email.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Work closely and communicate with, Building Administrator, School staff, other lead persons and custodians, the Custodial Supervisor, the Building and Grounds Manager to ensure a smooth operation of the school facility swing shift.
2. Coordinate with Lead Custodian, Building Administrators and Swing Custodians to support buildings night activities as needed.
3. Work cooperatively with students, staff and administrators to accomplish all tasks in a professional manner.
4. Communicate with lead custodian and principal regarding building needs and activity needs.
5. Fill in for lead/day custodian in his/her absence.
6. Perform housekeeping duties as required meeting work quality and quantity expectations.
7. Order supplies and stock closets as needed.
8. Ensure adequate cleaning equipment as required.
9. Assist other custodial staff as needed/ required to ensure a safe and sanitary facility.
10. Support the lunch program with set up, clean up as required.
11. Lock and Unlock Facility.
12. Complete Substitute Custodial Evaluation Forms and turn them in to the Custodial Supervisor.
13. Perform Monthly inspection of fire extinguishers. Initial Monthly and generate work orders as needed.
14. Perform all duties of the position within the scope of Kennewick School District policies and procedures, including regular attendance and punctuality.
15. Assist in creation and implementation of a calendar based preventive maintenance / Asset Preservation system.
16. Perform minor maintenance and secure facility emergencies as required. i.e. change light, replace ceiling tiles, replace dispensers, flag holders, turn off utilities, change filters, etc.
17. Assist Building Administrator, Custodial Lead and Custodial Supervisor with creating summer and other break periods cleaning schedules and other Misc. work performed in facility.
18. Respond to teacher/ Principal requests in a timely manner and to the best of ability.
19. Maintain Grounds, flower beds, sidewalks and garbage cans in close proximity to building.
20. Ensure interior/ exterior entries are clean and presentable each and every day.
21. Perform facility classroom/office moves as directed by Building Administrator.
22. Perform snow and ice removal as needed.
23. Maintain carpet and resilient flooring throughout the facility.
24. Generate work orders in the School Dude work order system for preventative maintenance and other needed work.
25. Work with other leads to ensure work is completed in a timely manner.
26. Respond to after-hour's emergencies as needed
27. interact with vendors, inspectors, contractors, etc. as needed.
28. Perform other related jobs and duties as assigned.
29. Assist with setting up and taking down for special programs and activities.
30. Use power equipment and hand tools such as mower, weed eater, shovel, broom, mop, squeegee, burnisher, and vacuum required for the cleaning and general maintenance of floors, walls, carpets and furniture.
31. Work in a crew on non-student days to help accomplish specific tasks.
32. Assists mentoring new team members on skills necessary to successfully perform duties required of them.
33. Perform Integrated Pest Management.
34. Accomplish all tasks in a professional manner. Model appropriate and healthy adult behavior. Interact with people and speak in a manner that reflects community standards of politeness, civility and human sensitivity.
35. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor related to job classification.
