This role requires strong independent judgment, technical problem-solving, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical users in a secure DOJ environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Litigation Support, eDiscovery, and Case Team Assistance
Provide technical assistance to case teams regarding legal automation options, litigation support systems, software capabilities, and support services available for case preparation, trial preparation, and presentation.
Coordinate with AUSAs, investigators, federal agents, and litigation team members to understand case details, litigation objectives, and the Government's strategy for organizing and presenting evidence.
Analyze litigation support requirements and recommend strategies, automated approaches, visual aids, and alternative methods to meet case-specific needs.
Develop project management strategies and tools for gathering, tracking, processing, reviewing, organizing, and producing case information effectively and efficiently.
Support complex matters involving thousands or hundreds of thousands of records, pages of evidence, millions of data elements, and specialized digital imaging or computer-based applications.
ESI Processing, Review Databases, and Productions
Oversee and support collection, tracking, processing, upload, review, analysis, organization, and production of electronically stored information (ESI), paper documents, and materials received from government agencies and external parties.
Create and maintain databases and systems for processing, storing, searching, reviewing, and retrieving ESI and case information.
Manage document organization and review workflows, including deduplication scope, quality control, indexing, search criteria, field structure, metadata considerations, and production readiness.
Maintain inventories of materials produced pursuant to subpoena and prepare outlines, chronologies, logs, and tracking tools for documents, exhibits, and evidence.
Liaise with law enforcement agencies, defense counsel, third-party vendors, AUSAs, the taint/privilege review team, and Criminal and Civil Division personnel regarding documents, investigative strategy, and key case information.
Systems Administration, Technical Support, and Litigation Technology
Manage and operate litigation databases and document review platforms containing several thousand or more documents.
Use litigation support and legal technology tools such as Relativity, Law Prediscovery, SQL, NUIX, Concordance, iPro, iConnect, CaseMap, Palantir, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe PDF as appropriate for case needs.
Optimize litigation support systems performance, identify components or workflows that may improve efficiency, and troubleshoot hardware, software, database, and user-support issues.
Manage or support equipment and technology used for litigation support and presentations, including PCs, laptops, printers, plotters, scanners, audio-video devices, HDMI televisions, DVD/Blu-ray players, and special presentation equipment.
Assist with graphical presentations, demonstrative exhibits, government presentations, trial exhibits, special presentation projects, and other visual materials that help communicate complex evidence.
Independent Judgment, Workflow Management, and Communication
Receive assignments from USAO Management and AUSAs that are defined by overall objectives, deadlines, scope, and expected results, while independently determining appropriate principles, practices, and methods to complete the work.
Evaluate circumstances, consider alternative approaches, and address incomplete or conflicting data while applying judgment and originality to litigation support tasks.
Meet with attorneys, investigators, agency IT personnel, vendors, and staff to plan litigation support, evaluate ESI storage and retrieval methods, and provide guidance on complex litigation support issues.
Develop, organize, and present training or user guidance for AUSAs and staff on litigation support software, case-data organization, or related technology workflows.
Perform work accurately, thoroughly, and in compliance with USAO policies, DOJ security requirements, confidentiality expectations, and case-team instructions.
Required Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree required. An approved combination of education and directly relevant prior experience may be considered only if accepted by the USAO or Contracting Officer for this backfill requirement.
Three to six years of experience in litigation support, electronic discovery, paralegal support, legal technology support, or a closely related legal support environment.
Extensive hands-on experience with Relativity and one or more litigation support or eDiscovery platforms such as iPro, Law Prediscovery, SQL, NUIX, Concordance, iConnect, CaseMap, Palantir, or similar systems.
Experience analyzing incoming electronic data to determine appropriate processing, review, search, quality-control, and production requirements.
Experience performing complex searches, supporting technical administration of document reviews, managing productions, and producing data to outside parties using common litigation support platforms.
Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Adobe PDF.
Ability to organize multiple priorities, work independently, communicate professionally with technical and non-technical users, and meet tight deadlines.
Strong written communication, oral communication, organization, accuracy, judgment, and customer-service skills.
