Police Officer - Academy Enrolled / Academy Graduate / Non-Lateral

Responsibilities The police officer will patrol an assigned beat, protect life and property, prevent crime, maintain order, enforce laws, investigate incidents, perform public service tasks, and collaborate with other agencies. Respond to emergencies and maintain law and order. Investigate unusual or suspicious conditions, direct traffic, and investigate traffic accidents. Administer first aid and provide assistance to the injured. Make arrests, serve subpoenas and warrants, guard prisoners, interview suspects. Note and report unsafe conditions, prepare evidence, testify in court, search for stolen property and lost persons. Provide information to the public about laws, ordinances, traffic safety, and public services. Issue citations, write reports, investigate vice conditions, analyze facts, clues, and evidence. Write reports in paper and computer form. Maintain relationships with other law‑enforcement agencies, employees, and the public. Operate radio and other communication equipment. Carry and use a firearm and other defensive weapons. Protect constitutional rights and uphold the California Peace Officers Standards and Training and police code of ethics. Perform other duties as assigned. Desirable Qualifications Communicate effectively and be readily understood. Read, understand, explain and implement technical material such as laws, policies, regulations, guidelines and orders concerning protection of life and property and maintenance of law, order and peace. Analyze situations and adopt effective courses of action after prioritizing hazards and circumstances. Drive an automobile safely under stress and non‑stressful situations. Prepare and write accurate reports. Maintain cooperative relationships with other employees, supervisors, public officials and community members. Work at night and during varying hours, remaining available for calls and duty in emergencies. Work under strict discipline with minimal supervision. Meet standards of stature, endurance, agility, and general physical condition. Knowledge of Modern police methods, community policing, problem solving, safety techniques, policing procedures, crime prevention, traffic control, crime detection, rules of evidence, and interrogation. Applicable Federal, State and local laws. Community, County, State and Federal resources. English grammar, spelling, composition and basic mathematics. Computer applications (word processing, spreadsheets, scheduling). Education and Experience High‑school diploma or equivalent. Enrollment in or graduation from a recognized police academy. No law‑enforcement experience required, but completion of a P.O.S.T. Basic Academy is highly desirable. Special Requirements Valid California driver’s license. Ability to sit or stand for long periods and meet physical standards, pass polygraph, psychological screening, background investigation, and written, oral and physical agility examinations. Availability for any shift, holidays, weekends, overtime, and calls. Adherence to P.O.S.T. Police Code of Ethics, loyalty to department and community. No felony or serious misdemeanor convictions. Good moral character as determined by background investigation. Minimum age of 21 years by date of employment. #J-18808-Ljbffr
