Civil Engineer - Water Resources

We are seeking a Civil Engineer specialising in Water Resources to support the planning, design and delivery of infrastructure projects that improve the resilience, efficiency and sustainability of water systems. This role will contribute to a varied portfolio of projects involving drainage, flood risk management, water supply, surface water management, river restoration and related civil engineering works. You will work with multidisciplinary teams, clients, contractors and regulatory stakeholders to develop practical, cost-effective solutions from initial concept through to construction and completion.


Key responsibilities will include preparing and reviewing technical reports, calculations, drawings, specifications and feasibility studies; undertaking hydrological and hydraulic assessments; supporting flood risk and drainage strategies; and contributing to the design of pipelines, channels, culverts, attenuation systems, outfalls and associated infrastructure. You will assist with site investigations, surveys, inspections and construction support, ensuring that designs meet relevant standards, environmental requirements, health and safety obligations and project objectives. The role may also involve coordinating subcontractors and technical specialists, managing project deliverables, monitoring budgets and programmes, and communicating technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.


Applicants should hold a degree or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering, Water Engineering or a closely related discipline, with relevant professional experience in water resources or infrastructure design. Experience with industry-standard design and modelling software, such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroDrainage, InfoWorks ICM, HEC-RAS or equivalent tools, would be advantageous. You should have a sound understanding of UK water, drainage, flood risk and environmental standards, along with strong analytical, report-writing and problem-solving skills. Professional registration or progress towards chartership is desirable.
