Histology Technician

Bering‑Alaka`ina Holdings is looking for a Histology Technician to provide research and administrative support services for our government customer at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. Performs a range of immunohistochemical and routine molecular pathology services, including microscopic analysis, specimen preparation, nucleic acid assays, and protein extraction/purification from formalin‑fixed, paraffin‑embedded samples. Ensures laboratory operations are performed efficiently according to SOPs and manages equipment, inventory, and safety documentation. Responsibilities Perform immunohistochemical techniques suitable for microscopic analysis, examination, and photography. Assist in developing technical procedures to meet the special requirements of particular protocols, consulting with investigators/pathologists. Conduct section orientation for all technicians in the section. Provide hands‑on training to personnel on methods, procedures, and equipment operation. Scan and electronically store slides processed by the IHC/IFA/ICC section. Perform routine and special histological procedures, including specimen trim‑in, processing, embedding, sectioning, and staining. Execute molecular pathology procedures such as nucleic acid assays and protein extraction from FFPE samples. Prepare buffers and solutions using appropriate calculations and titration tools. Operate specialized equipment including plate readers, autostainers, thermocyclers, microscopes (bright field, fluorescent, confocal, slide scanner). Conduct yearly inventory and update chemical inventory per SOP. Disposal of hazardous waste in accordance with SOP. Maintain updated Safety Data Sheets for each chemical in hard copy and electronic format. Inventory and submit purchase requests for supplies and reagents. Obtain quotes and submit purchase requests through automated MS SharePoint or equivalent system. Assist in preparing scientific presentations and peer‑review publications, including graphical representation of image analysis and technical write‑ups. Author and update SOPs for the molecular pathology section. Provide weekly updates and reports on work completed, including procedure type, completion status, pass/fail status, sample count, turnaround time, and consumables used. Serve as designated Team Lead for Laboratory Support. Coordinate contract employee leaves to meet mission needs. Assign work schedules to satisfy current priorities and needs in discussion with Pathology Chief. Ensure contract employees comply with all training requirements and provide copies of training certificates to the COR. Other duties as assigned. Required Education and Certification HistoTechnician Histotechnician (ASCP) – American Society of Clinical Pathology Required Citizenship and Clearance Must be a U.S. citizen.
