Shift Supervisor - Electric Distribution Center

Job Summary A Leader for Electric Operations at NiSource provides leadership to a team responsible for supporting emergencies, dispatching, system switching, and installation of asset improvements on the Transmission & Distribution Electric System. Field Leaders ensure safe, reliable service delivery, manage employee training and development, and are on call 24/7 to support operational activities and emergencies. Key Responsibilities Promote and uphold a safe working environment, ensuring compliance with NIPSCO’s Safety Manual and continuous improvement of electric operations public safety. Provide leadership, direction, and performance coaching to front‑line staff, facilitating effective two‑way communication between front‑line workers and the broader organization. Serve as a consistent presence in the dispatch center, offering guidance and feedback to front‑line employees. Manage development, training, evaluation, and coaching of workers to enhance individual and team performance. Enforce terms in the Collective Bargaining Agreement where applicable. Motivate, coach, and develop staff to meet established objectives and encourage active participation in continuous improvement initiatives. Align resource utilization with operational and maintenance plans, managing operating, maintenance, and capital budgets. Coordinate work efforts with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring tasks meet company standards, regulations, processes, and procedures. Utilize tools and technology effectively to complete daily duties. Promote a diverse and inclusive environment aligned with organizational values. Troubleshoot process systems, equipment failures, and inefficiencies; respond to emergencies following established procedures, incident command, and storm recovery structures. Maintain up‑to‑date and compliant training for all personnel. Write and approve switching orders per NIPSCO General Orders. Direct teams to meet reliability and outage performance metrics (CAIDI, SAIDI, SAIFI, ETR). Supervise Dispatcher‑Operators, resolve routine and emergency substation and line switching, conduct outage evaluations, and communicate with all operational groups. Provide technical support and operational data to planning, engineering, and other groups for new equipment installations and reliability initiatives. Monitor current electric system conditions using Network Management System (NMS) and other data‑based systems to identify safety or reliability concerns. Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. 4+ years of experience in the electric utility industry or in a related utility or skilled trades background. Demonstrated leadership experience. Strong knowledge of on‑the‑job safety and compliance requirements. Ability to make sound decisions in emergency situations. Strong organizational and planning skills. Coaching and employee development experience. Proficiency with technologies such as ITOA, NMS, NIMS, Salesforce, SAP, CIS, ESO1, and GIS. Knowledge of distribution and transmission lines, substations, troubleshooting, maintenance, operations, single‑line diagrams, engineering drawings, and standards. Valid state driver’s license with a clean driving record. Availability for additional hours beyond 40 per week and a 4‑day on/4‑day off shift rotation (days and nights). Preferred Qualifications Associate or bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution. Relevant certifications (e.g., Project Management Professional, Certified Safety Professional, Professional Engineer). Other Requirements Work authorization: authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
