Our client is a top civil utility contractor in New Jersey, with 50 year history of servicing the New Jersey Utility market.

Job Description

• Manage day-to-day field operations for utility and civil construction projects.
• Supervise and coordinate crews installing water, sewer, storm drain, and related underground utility systems.
• Plan and schedule labor, equipment, materials, and subcontractors to maximize efficiency and productivity.
• Ensure compliance with project specifications, drawings, and local regulations.
• Conduct daily site inspections and enforce safety standards and company policies.
• Coordinate with project managers, engineers, inspectors, utility companies, and municipal agencies.
• Monitor project schedules and proactively resolve field issues to avoid delays.
• Track production, labor costs, equipment utilization, and project progress.
• Lead weekly toolbox talks, safety meetings, and pre-task planning sessions.
• Maintain accurate daily reports, job logs, and documentation.
• Identify opportunities for process improvements and cost savings.
• Ensure quality control standards are met throughout project execution.

The Successful Applicant

A successful Civil Superintendent should have:

• 5+ years of experience as a Superintendent managing heavy civil and utility construction projects.
• Extensive experience with underground utilities, including:
  • Water mains
  • Sanitary sewer systems
  • Stormwater systems
  • Force mains
  • Utility relocations
• Strong knowledge of excavation, trenching, shoring, grading, and site development activities.
• Ability to read and interpret civil construction plans, specifications, and utility profiles.
• Familiarity with OSHA regulations and utility safety requirements.
• Proven leadership experience managing multiple crews and subcontractors.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.

Preferred Qualifications

• OSHA 30 Certification.
• Experience with municipal, DOT, and public infrastructure projects.
• NCCER or other construction management certifications.
• Knowledge of GPS machine control and modern construction technologies.
• Experience with project scheduling software and construction management systems.
