Public Benefit Specialist

Position Summary This position is located On‑Site at Summit Hospital in Show Low, AZ. The role involves interviewing uninsured/under‑insured patients to determine eligibility for Medicaid or financial assistance programs and managing the application process to ensure accurate and timely billing or adjustment postings. Essential Job Functions Interview patients to assess Medicaid or financial assistance eligibility. Initiate and coordinate application processes for accurate submissions. Communicate with patients to obtain required documentation. Follow up on submitted applications through to determination, updating insurance information as needed. Document all actions and communications in the patient accounting system. Maintain knowledge of state and federal program requirements and share information with teammates. Build and maintain working relationships with county, state, and federal Medicaid caseworkers and collaborate with revenue cycle departments. Perform other assigned duties as required. Qualifications 1‑2 years of experience in the healthcare industry interacting with patients on financial issues. Understanding of revenue cycle processes (admission, billing, payments, denials). Comprehensive knowledge of the insurance authorization and benefits verification process. Knowledge of health insurance requirements and medical terminology/CPT codes. Experience in patient access, managed care/insurance, or call‑center environments is preferred. Strong communication skills and openness to innovation, including AI solutions to improve processes. Education & Certifications High School Diploma or GED (post‑secondary education and experience may be considered in lieu of a degree). CRCR certification required within 9 months of hire. Compensation & Benefits Hourly rate: $18.65 – $20.50 (based on experience).
