Tax Partner - State and Local TaxEstablished and profitable regional CPA firm is seeking a State Tax Partner for direct entry onto their team. The ideal candidate must be a specialist in California state and local tax laws. This position offers flexible work arrangements between office and remote locations in areas like Los Angeles, Irvine, Woodland Hills, San Francisco, or San Jose. Familiarity with franchise and gross receipts taxes like those in Texas and Ohio is required. Experience with sales and use tax is a bonus.Demonstrate expertise in providing independent advice to clients, showcasing advanced technical skills.Ensure timely completion of client assignments within budget, understanding firm economics and profitability.Contribute to business development efforts for State and Local Tax (SALT) projects and remain engaged in the growth process.Delegate and oversee tax research projects to achieve accurate and efficient results.Manage personnel functions related to accounting staff, including recruitment, training, retention, and utilization. Participate in recruiting events at colleges and universities.Conduct interviews and make initial employment offers to potential accounting staff members. Evaluate and review performance for promotions and salary adjustments.Handle governmental tax audits and represent clients before tax authorities.Stay updated on qualifications of SALT tax staff and ensure appropriate staff assignments.Assist in developing a trained staff through recruiting, evaluations, training aids, and professional development programs.Ensure accurate and timely billing and collection processes are followed.Maintain an in-depth understanding of the firm's philosophy on tax matters.Stay informed about economic and legislative trends that may impact the business environment.Contribute to updating the Firm's Quality Control Document.Engage in the Firm’s practice development initiatives.Build effective relationships with federal tax partners, directors, and managers within the Firm.Promote efficient operations and compliance with management guidelines.Participate in committees to provide insights and improve the Firm's operations and profitability.QualificationsRequires a minimum of ten (10) to fifteen (15) years of public accounting experience with increasing engagements managed.Bachelor’s or master’s degree in accounting.Completion of at least forty (40) hours of continuing professional education annually to enhance technical and business skills.Must hold a valid CPA or JD license.
