Registered Nurse

REGISTERED NURSE Portsmouth Naval Base, VA TP Suffolk Position Qualification / Requirements Education: Minimum of Associate’s Degree in Nursing. Accredited by ACEN, CCNE, or State Accredited. Cardiac Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS). Experience: Minimum 1 year as an RN in outpatient acute care or ambulatory setting within the last two years. License: Current, full, active, and unrestricted RN license. U.S. Citizenship: Must be a U.S. citizen. English Language Requirement: Read, write, speak, and understand English to communicate with patients and providers. Physical Capability: Able to stand and/or sit for extended periods and perform required services. Duties Perform full range of RN duties per task order, including triage, patient assessment and monitoring, use of monitoring equipment, appropriate nursing care, procedures, and treatments, execution of physician orders, documentation, patient education, emotional support, and discharge instructions. Perform assessment/data collection systematically focusing on physiological, psychological, and cognitive status; identify learning needs and implement measures. Provide clinical guidance and instruction to LPNs/LVNs, nursing assistants, and ancillary personnel. Demonstrate sound knowledge base and action in care and decision making for designated patient populations. When weaknesses or deficiencies are identified, complete refresher training at contractor expense. Perform documentation (manual or computer) timely, accurately, and concisely. Implement care consistently and continuously; demonstrate competency in medication and IV administration including blood products, TPN, IM, SQ, phlebotomy, and prescribed medications. Demonstrate self‑directed learning, professional communication, effective working relationships with team, patients, and relatives; refer unresolved complaints to the Division Head. Practice problem identification and resolution skills; provide counseling and health teaching; support patients and significant others; explain procedures and treatments; promote cooperation. Hours Services Monday through Friday between 0700 and 1900. Shifts typically 3, 9, or 12 hours. Base Down Days During planned closings, employees are compensated only for actual hours worked. If the clinic is closed and the employee cannot work, the employee must use leave or take LWOP without penalty. Special Requirements / Skills Must be comfortable in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment; able to reprioritize on short notice; work on multiple simultaneous projects; flexible and team‑oriented; possess time‑management skills; meet deadlines; and exhibit high adaptability and willingness to embrace change.
