Physician (Hematology and Oncology Program Manager)

Summary This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Applicants must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit their EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval, award amount (up to $200,000), and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply. Qualifications Applicants must meet the basic requirements listed below. Applicants pending completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed VA physicians who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard are deemed to have met the basic requirements. Basic Requirements United States citizenship. Non‑citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA policy. Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree in allopathic or osteopathic medicine, obtained from a VA‑approved school in the year of completion. Full, unrestricted medical license in a U.S. state, territory, Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia. Residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to board certification, or one of the alternative pathways described. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Faculty appointment at Wake Forest University School of Medicine, commensurate with experience. Preferred: ABIM board certification in Hematology and/or Medical Oncology and fellowship training in adult Hematology & Oncology. Physical requirements: bending, pushing, pulling, reaching, occasional kneeling, crawling, squatting, lifting, carrying, manipulation of equipment, patient assistance, positioning, walking, prolonged standing, reading written orders, computer screens, patient records, equipment controls, communicating with patients and colleagues, near visual acuity, critical decision making, patient confidentiality, and working under stress. Duties The Hematology/Oncology Program Manager will report to the Section Chief of Hematology and Oncology at the Salisbury VA HealthCare Center. Assist with overseeing operations across Salisbury, Charlotte, and Kernersville sites, supporting the Section Chief and administrative responsibilities for clinical operations and programs. Maintain primary clinical responsibilities while fulfilling administrative duties. Serve as Director for Infusion Services, ensuring comprehensive oncologic and general infusion care across all sites. Develop standardized processes and policies for infusion services and work closely with nursing and administrative teams. Supervise oncology navigation core; nurse navigators report directly to the Program Manager; develop and execute patient‑centered processes. Lead quality improvement initiatives, research, and compliance with national, local, regulatory, and accreditation requirements. Act as Acting Chief of Hematology and Oncology when the Section Chief is on approved leave. Assist the section chief with strategic and operational leadership for Hematology & Oncology across the three locations. Oversee outpatient and inpatient consult services in a multispecialty environment. Supervise trainees, fostering a culture of high‑quality outcomes, continuous improvement, and scholarly activity. Advance education and research as a full‑time clinician‑educator‑research faculty member with protected time. Recruitment incentive may be authorized for highly qualified candidates through the EDRP.
