We are currently seeking motivated and compassionate Mental Health Skill-Building Counselors (QMHP-As) to join our growing team. This position is ideal for professionals who are passionate about helping adults develop the skills necessary to increase independence, improve stability, and successfully function within their homes and communities.

Position Overview

The Mental Health Skill-Building Counselor provides individualized, community-based services to adults experiencing significant mental health challenges.

Counselors work directly with individuals to develop and strengthen practical skills related to independent living, symptom management, medication management, accessing community resources, interpersonal relationships, budgeting, housing stability, and other areas identified within the individual's treatment plan.

This is a field-based position , and services are primarily provided within clients' homes and community settings.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide individualized Mental Health Skill-Building Services in accordance with each client's Individualized Service Plan (ISP).

• Assist clients with developing independent living and daily functioning skills.

• Provide education and skill development related to symptom and medication management.

• Assist clients with accessing community resources, healthcare services, benefits, housing resources, and other supports.

• Support clients in developing healthy coping, communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.

• Monitor client progress toward established treatment goals.

• Maintain professional and therapeutic boundaries with clients.

• Coordinate with clinical supervisors, healthcare providers, case managers, and other members of the client's treatment team as appropriate.

• Complete progress notes and all required clinical documentation accurately and within RTHS-established timelines.

• Participate in supervision, staff meetings, trainings, and quality-improvement activities.

• Maintain compliance with RTHS policies, DBHDS requirements, DMAS regulations, Medicaid requirements, and applicable professional standards.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet Virginia requirements to qualify as a Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) or otherwise meet the applicable qualifications for providing Mental Health Skill-Building Services.

Preferred candidates will have:

• A bachelor's or master's degree in psychology, social work, counseling, human services, or a related behavioral health field.

• Current QMHP-A registration with the Virginia Board of Counseling , when applicable.

• Previous experience working with adults with serious mental illness or behavioral health needs.

• Strong clinical documentation and time-management skills.

• Ability to work independently in community-based environments.

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

• Reliable transportation and the ability to travel throughout assigned service areas.

• Valid driver's license and appropriate automobile insurance.

• Ability to successfully complete required background checks and employment screenings.
