Join eBay’s Customer Support Technology Platform team to help build and evolve the foundational systems that power our global customer support experience. As a Software Engineer 2, you will contribute to backend platform services, internal tools, and infrastructure components that enable scalable, reliable, and efficient engineering across teams.This is a hands-on role where you will primarily focus on coding, debugging, and learning platform systems, working closely with senior engineers to deliver high-quality solutions.What You’ll DoDevelop and maintain backend services, platform components, and internal toolsContribute to APIs, automation frameworks, and shared platform capabilitiesWrite clean, testable, and maintainable code following team standardsParticipate in code reviews, sprint planning, and Agile ceremoniesSolve issues in development and production by receiving mentorshipSupport system reliability and performance improvementsCollaborate with engineers, product managers, and SRE teamsLearn and apply best practices in scalability, observability, and system designMust-Have QualificationsBS/MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)2–4 years of software engineering experienceProficiency in Java (or similar backend language)Experience building or contributing to RESTful APIs or backend servicesBasic understanding of:Distributed systems conceptsDatabases (SQL; exposure to NoSQL is a plus)Familiarity with:Version control (Git)CI/CD pipelinesUnit testing and debuggingAdditionally:Working knowledge of modern frontend technologies (e.g., JavaScript/TypeScript, React or Angular) sufficient to contribute to UI components and integrations when neededNice-to-HaveExposure to Spring Boot or similar frameworksFamiliarity with messaging systems (e.g., Kafka)Experience with cloud platforms, containers (Docker/Kubernetes)Basic knowledge of monitoring/logging toolsAwareness of platform engineering concepts (internal tooling, shared services)What Success Looks LikeDelivers well-scoped features with guidance from senior engineersWrites reliable, readable, and maintainable codeActively participates in team processes and code reviewsDemonstrates curiosity and continuous learningEffectively collaborates within the team and communicates clearlyTeam & ImpactYou’ll be part of a platform engineering team that enables other engineering teams to build faster and more reliably. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a target bonus and restricted stock units (as applicable) in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as PTO and parental leave).
