Required Qualifications: Applicants must specifically address how they meet these required qualifications to meet the requirements of the position.

• A minimum of 15 hours or more in accounting coursework from an accredited United States (US) college or university. Relevant accounting experience may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

• Knowledge of professional standards, financial reporting, accounting theory, and governmental United States (US) GAAP

• Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to prioritize competing projects.

• High level of problem-solving ability and ability to prepare reconciliations

• Extensive experience with and proficiency in Excel.

• Ability to consistently meet deadlines.

• Strong oral and written communication skills.

• Demonstrated knowledge of automated accounting systems.

Preferred Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree in accounting from an accredited US college or university

• USAS (Uniform Statewide Accounting System) experience including processing transactions and reporting functions.

Job Description

The Accountant II manages financial transactions, including recording, auditing, reconciling, and reporting.

Job Duties

• Reconcile monthly appropriation activity and balances between the two systems

• Identify required adjustments, prepare, and submit journal entries both in the integrated accounting system and the Uniform Statewide Accounting System ( USAS ).

• Ensure payments and reimbursement requests are processed promptly and correctly in compliance with state statutes and expenditure code assignments.

• Review and analyze general ledger accounts for integrity as well as compliance with applicable principles, guidelines, and procedures

• Assist with the completion of the Annual Financial Report ( AFR );

• Prepare spreadsheets to facilitate interpretation of data

• Work as a team member to facilitate cross-training and perform duties necessary to the effective operation of the department.
