Solar Farm Technician I

RWE Americas, LLC – Full time, permanent. Start as soon as possible. Functional area: Operations & Maintenance. Remuneration: Non-Exempt. The Solar Farm Technician I performs preventative and corrective maintenance on all scopes of an operating power plant, including civil, mechanical and electrical inspection and repair. The role monitors the plant’s availability and ensures mechanical and electrical maintenance is carried out when necessary to maintain established safety and operating targets. Responsibilities include executing the daily scheduling philosophy, prioritizing work from planning to maximize generation, maintaining accountability and readiness of plant tools, equipment and vehicles, providing technical guidance to the O&M team, tracking and maintaining records of service activities through the digital maintenance management system, and fostering the work ethic and culture of the team. Role Responsibilities Test, maintain, and troubleshoot solar PV electrical equipment Ensure all assigned maintenance tasks are performed safely and according to site operating procedures for Storage PV sites Complete Lock‑Out‑Tag‑Out (LOTO), JSA’s, Permit to Work, and required documentation for safe maintenance and repairs Proactively seek improvement opportunities for job‑appropriate processes and procedures Perform data collection and prepare reports to meet reporting requirements, documenting all work Assist with balance of plant and switchyard work, including substation and collection system maintenance Maintain trackers, inverters and other PV electrical equipment as assigned by the Site Supervisor or Lead Monitor maintenance contractors and enforce corrective actions Take current and voltage readings as necessary Identify gaps in safety standards and potential risks in the environment Use available tools to monitor energy output and respond promptly to emergencies or situations requiring immediate troubleshooting Ensure site access, HSE, security, deliveries and inspections are performed by site protocols Interface with third‑party contractors at facilities Be available to respond to non‑traditional operating hours, emergent issues, and resolve O&M issues Adhere to the company’s values and behaviors Perform any other duties assigned by management Job Requirements High School diploma or equivalent required Associate’s degree in Engineering or related field from an accredited U.S. school (preferably non‑correspondence) NABCEP certification or Electrical license preferred License or certification including Journeyman or Master Electrician license Unrestricted driver’s license in good standing Minimum 6 years of experience as a maintenance electrician (commercial or industrial), multi‑craft maintenance technician, or operations and maintenance of power generation, transmission or distribution Renewable energy experience, preferably solar, will be considered a preference Skilled in at least one of: power plant operations, electrical and mechanical equipment maintenance, or substation maintenance Able to fill out JHA/LOTO/Tailboard forms without assistance Competent in power plant safety protocols, electrical safety and understanding of the NEC Knowledge of hand and power tool use and environmental and safety policies Can meet tight deadlines and evolving schedules Willing to travel to and from job sites and support other sites Can work independently and as part of a team Familiar with computer/tablet and office productivity tools Excellent verbal and written communication skills Shift work flexibility: nights, weekends and holidays as required Complete all required training satisfactorily and within timeframe First aid/CPR/AED certification OSHA certification Adaptive to new technologies and methods Own responsibilities and seek new corrective work opportunities Initiative: work with minimal supervision and make decisions for discipline‑related issues with limited information Prepare and present technical presentations with assistance Multi‑task while working independently and as part of a team Highly motivated, goal‑oriented, and strong problem‑solving abilities Physical Requirements Work in extreme weather conditions Walk, climb and stand extensively during the work day Push, pull and lift tools and equipment weighing up to and over 50 lbs.
