Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Acute Care Registered Nurse to provide comprehensive patient care in an inpatient setting located in Sitka, Alaska. This role involves caring for a diverse patient population across the lifespan, presenting with acute, chronic, and post-operative conditions.

The ideal candidate will be proficient in managing fluctuating patient acuity across various specialties, including Med-surg Pediatrics, Med-surg Orthopedics, Med-surg Mother/Baby, and Med-surg Adult care. This position requires strong clinical assessment skills, critical thinking, and a collaborative approach to patient care.

The Registered Nurse will utilize the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, culturally sensitive, and patient-centered services. Collaboration with providers and interdisciplinary teams is essential to promote optimal patient outcomes, safety, and a positive patient experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive patient assessments, develop individualized plans of care, and implement and evaluate nursing interventions.
• Administer medications and treatments safely and accurately according to provider orders and established policies.
• Recognize changes in patient condition and initiate appropriate interventions or escalation of care.
• Provide thorough patient and family education related to care, medications, and discharge planning.
• Exercise independent nursing judgment and critical thinking to determine appropriate nursing actions, interventions, and priorities.
• Collaborate effectively with providers and interdisciplinary team members to coordinate care, facilitate referrals, and ensure continuity of services.
• Document assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately and timely in the electronic health record.
• Adhere to nursing scope of practice, regulatory requirements, safety protocols, and infection prevention standards.
• Participate in quality and performance improvement activities.
• Demonstrate professionalism, accountability, flexibility, and teamwork, including providing guidance and delegation to ancillary staff.
• Support the orientation, mentoring, and education of staff, students, and peers.
• Float to other departments or assignments as needed to support patient care needs.

Required Qualifications

• Associate’s Degree in Nursing (ADN) from an accredited program.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
• Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
• Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification from the American Heart Association.
• Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification from the American Academy of Pediatrics, required for Mother/Baby specialty.
• Ability to obtain and maintain required clinical competencies and high-risk competencies within organizational timelines.
