About the Facility: Albuquerque Indian Health Center The facility is a comprehensive healthcare facility dedicated to serving Native American communities in and around Albuquerque, New Mexico. Operated by the Indian Health Service (IHS), the center provides a wide range of medical services, including primary care, behavioral health, dental care, pharmacy services, and public health programs. AIHC focuses on culturally competent care, emphasizing disease prevention and health promotion tailored to the needs of Native American populations. Optometrist - Responsibilities

• The Optometrist delivers primary and comprehensive eye care services, including prescribing corrective lenses and ordering diagnostic studies.
• Diagnose and manage visual and ocular conditions, including Diabetic Retinopathy, Glaucoma, Iritis, and other ocular/systemic diseases.
• Perform minor surgical procedures (e.g., anterior segment foreign body removal, corneal debridement, suture removal).
• Provide preventive and therapeutic optometric care to patients across all age groups and with diverse needs.
• The Optometrist detects neuromuscular impairments and anomalies of binocular function.
• Refer and coordinate medical and surgical care with other healthcare professionals as needed.
• Utilize laboratory and radiology services to manage and evaluate ophthalmic conditions.
• Conduct mandated examinations, such as diabetic retinopathy and glaucoma screenings.
• The Optometrist provides specialty clinics and services, including low vision care, contact lens services, and geriatric care.

Optometrist - Requirements

• Doctor of Optometry degree from an accredited program by Accreditation Council on Optometric Education.
• At least one year of professional experience as an Optometrist
• Passing score on the National Board of Examiners in Optometry (NBEO) exams.
• Must have a current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Must have a current unrestricted license to practice Optometry in a U.S. State, D.C., Puerto Rico, or U.S. territory.
