Job Summary Manage one or more intermediate or complex projects within a matrix team environment. Provide leadership, direction, training, coordination, and effective communication to initiate, plan, execute, monitor, control, and close projects in a safe, efficient, economic, risk-balanced approach to achieve short and long range goals and obtain maximum customer satisfaction. Provide project transparency and develop effective relationships with stakeholders to enable sound business decisions. What you’ll do Plan, organize, direct, coordinate, and supervise assigned project activities, becoming proficient in all aspects. Utilize Waterfall and Agile project management principles and successfully implement these techniques. Support employees and contractors with the AEP System Safety Process, ensuring a safe working environment focused on Zero Harm. Manage, develop, review, and coordinate project/outage plans, schedules, and budgets, becoming proficient in all aspects. Manage costs and reallocate funding. Effectively communicate project details and status updates. Lead planning meetings, stakeholder presentations, and project updates. Provide concise written and oral reports and communications. Develop and actively manage working relationships with project teams, plant and operating staff, customers, vendors, and suppliers. Foster teamwork and pursue customer satisfaction. Provide guidance, instruction, and training to improve design, systems, procedures, schedules, and costs. Confidently challenge others with informed understanding of project work. Ensure maximum customer satisfaction and demonstrate efficient performance on intermediate project level. Mentor other project managers. Direct and supervise sub‑team project managers as assigned. Develop and manage procurement plans for necessary outside resources. Manage contracts for outside services: develop RFPs, evaluate bids, select vendors, negotiate contracts, oversee performance, and ensure compliance. Conduct and supervise closeout processes, including analysis of project success and realization of benefits. Use AEP project management standards and assist in their implementation. Manage programs as assigned. Qualifications and Experience Project Manager SG7: Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, Project Management, Computer Science, or related field with three (3) years qualified experience. Or a two‑year associate’s degree with five (5) years experience, Or high school diploma/GED with seven (7) years experience. Preferred: Three (3) years as a Project Manager Associate (Grade 6). Experience must include outage management, business/financial administration, major construction field experience, project estimating, controls, engineering, or comparable experience. Knowledge in construction safety, negotiations, scope development and control, cost estimating, contracting, controls and reporting, and quality control beneficial. Experience in utilities, commercial nuclear power, or IT systems is favorable. PMP certification is preferred but not required. Valid state driver’s license required. Project Manager Senior SG8: Bachelor’s degree with five (5) years qualified experience, or associate’s degree with seven (7) years experience, or high school diploma/GED with nine (9) years experience. Experience: Two (2) years as a Project Manager (Grade 7) or equivalent. Must exhibit progressively increasing project management and business acumen. Knowledge areas: construction safety, negotiations, scope development and control, cost estimating, contracting, controls and reporting, quality control, risk management. Develop and demonstrate leadership, communication, economic analysis, and strategic thinking. PM tools, techniques, and certification knowledge applied. Must be a potential journey level PM. PMP certification preferred but not required. Valid state driver’s license required. Skills and Competencies Effective leadership, team building, meeting management skills. Understanding of Engineering & Design, Procurement, Contracting, Estimating, Construction, and Startup procedures. Optimize projects and ensure latest guidelines. Apply project management tools. Risk assessment and prioritization. Conflict management, constructive feedback, independence, and escalation when necessary. Scope and technical options evaluation, risk mitigation. Procurement understanding, contract components development. Critical drawing and document hand‑offs between disciplines. Evaluate team capabilities, make recommendations. Physical Demands & Work Environment Perform light physical duties: construction site walkdown, climbing ladders, awareness of hazardous conditions. Work at various AEP locations: office, power plants (including nuclear), construction sites for Distribution, Transmission, Generation, Telecom. Possible hazardous areas and radiation exposure within NRC limits. Travel typically 25% or less, may increase for specific assignments. Location & Compensation Site locations: New Albany, Ohio or Fort Wayne, Indiana. Compensation: Project Manager SG7 $87,633–$109,544; Project Manager SG8 $98,993–$128,689.
