Position Overview


Mercyhealth Hospital and Trauma Center in Janesville, WI is seeking qualified Registered Respiratory Therapists (RRTs) for a 13-week contract assignment. The Respiratory Therapist will provide comprehensive respiratory care to adult and, when assigned, pediatric patients while supporting routine, critical, and emergency respiratory needs.


The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong clinical judgment, effective communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and other members of the healthcare team.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform respiratory therapies supporting the treatment, diagnosis, and evaluation of cardiopulmonary conditions.
• Conduct emergency rounds, oxygen saturation checks, and oxygen titration according to established protocols.
• Initiate, monitor, evaluate, and wean patients from invasive and non-invasive ventilation.
• Assess patients and make appropriate recommendations regarding ventilator parameters and respiratory therapies.
• Initiate and continuously evaluate treatment plans, including medication delivery and oxygen administration.
• Perform pre- and post-treatment patient assessments and recommend changes or discontinuation of therapies when clinically appropriate.
• Monitor, educate, and document patient and family understanding of respiratory treatments, medications, equipment, and therapeutic goals.
• Set up, calibrate, operate, and troubleshoot mechanical ventilators and non-invasive ventilation equipment.
• Demonstrate competency with therapeutic bronchoscopies and pulmonary function screening equipment.
• Maintain, clean, disinfect, assemble, and properly stock respiratory care equipment and departmental supplies.
• Respond to emergency situations and assist with resuscitation, including airway management, airway stabilization, chest compressions, and ventilator support as directed by the Code Team Leader.
• Transport critically ill and mechanically ventilated patients to procedures and diagnostic testing within the hospital.
• Provide developmentally appropriate respiratory care based on patient age, physical condition, psychosocial needs, and cultural considerations.
• Participate in community education, staff in-services, professional development, and continuing education activities.
• Maintain compliance with universal precautions, safety standards, proper body mechanics, and applicable respiratory care protocols.

Required Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Care Program; education verification required.
• Current, active Wisconsin Respiratory Care Practitioner license .
• RRT (Registered Respiratory Therapist) credential through the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
• Current AHA Provider Level BLS certification.
• Current NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification.
• Must maintain all required licenses and certifications in active status throughout the assignment.
