About Morrison Mentors Morrison Mentors, Inc. is a nonprofit organization based in Hempstead, New York, delivering hands‑on STEM learning programs for K‑12 students, relying on a team of instructors, mentors and technical interns. About The Role Morrison Mentors is seeking caring, patient, enthusiastic students to join as STEM Assistants. This in‑person role supports classroom instruction by helping lead hands‑on activities, guiding students through creative projects, and fostering a positive learning environment where children feel confident, curious, and supported. Availability & Work Schedule Spring & Fall: Part‑time, minimum 23 days per week, 12:00 – 6:00 PM or 1:00 – 6:00 PM. Summer: Part‑time, 34 days per week, shifts: 8:00 – 12:00 PM; 12:00 – 4:00 PM; or full day 8:00 – 4:00 PM. Compensation $18–$20 per hour, depending on experience. Key Responsibilities Assist lead instructors in delivering engaging lessons and hands‑on activities. Support students during classroom projects, helping them stay engaged and confident. Prepare materials for daily activities, including crafts, group work, and learning centers. Maintain an organized, welcoming classroom environment. Provide gentle guidance and encouragement to students. Communicate effectively with teachers and staff to support classroom routines. Qualifications Experience working with children in settings such as camps, afterschool programs, youth groups, tutoring, childcare, or community programs is helpful but not required. Comfort supporting young learners with patience, empathy, and clear communication. Familiarity with early‑childhood or elementary‑aged students is a plus. Background in special education or supporting children with diverse needs is helpful but not required.
