Job Description
Job Title: Registered Nurse - L&D

Must-Have: Ability to read and interpret fetal strips, critical thinking skills, previous travel experience, and must be able to float to Medsurg and ER as needed

Description:
Department: Labor and Delivery

Certifications required: BLS (preferred: ACLS, NRP, STABLE)

Total number of Labor and Delivery beds: 15 (7 L&D, 8 Postpartum)

Number of OR suites on the unit for C-Sections: 1

Average number of births per month: 58


Ratio guidelines: 1:1 for titrated medications and 1:3 for couplet care

Common patient diagnoses: Mix of obstetric/neonates, hypertension, gestational diabetes mellitus; deliveries usually at 36 weeks and above

RNs required to titrate drips: Yes

Common titratable drips: Pitocin, insulin, magnesium

Charge nurse on each shift: Yes, the charge nurse takes an assignment

Support staff: Yes, including CNAs for vitals, paperwork, and patient transfers

OB/Neonatologist availability: Not in-house 24/7

Anesthesia availability: Not in-house 24/7

RT Equipment available: Yes

RNs required to read their own strips: Yes
