Details Acute care setting in a 20-bed Stepdown Care Unit with 8 private and remaining semi-private rooms Nurse-to-patient ratio of 3 to 1 Care for patients with a wide range of medical conditions including COPD, CHF, DM, sepsis, renal issues, DKA, alcohol withdrawal, overdoses, pneumonia, and other respiratory conditions, plus some neuro/surgical/cardiac patients Frequent exposure to trach and vented patients, chest tubes, g-tubes, NG tubes, PICC lines, and central lines Uses BiPap, CPap, and face mask ventilators RNs are required to titrate drips including Cardene, Cardizem, Amio, Dobutamine, Heparin, and low-dose or infrequent Vasopressors All patients are on Phillips bedside monitors with tele techs interpreting strips for RN confirmation Charge nurse and house supervisor coverage provided on every shift 2 PCTs per shift, each taking up to 10 patients if the unit is full EPIC EMR used 12-hour night shifts, 7p-7a Every other weekend required, with night shift working Fri/Sat Every other holiday rotation, including the companion day of major holidays No call or standby requirements Travel RNs are first to float, potentially to ICU (with sufficient ICU experience), other Stepdown units, or Gen Med, taking an assignment appropriate to that unit's ratio Requirements Active IL RN license required BLS (AHA) certification required; ACLS recommended Minimum 1 year of experience required ICU/Intermediate (Stepdown) experience with a 3:1 or 2:1 nurse-to-patient ratio required; progressive care or telemetry experience is not sufficient Trach and vent experience required Negative drug screen required for all panels Additional Information Provide direct care to Stepdown patients requiring close monitoring and frequent titration of medications Confirm tele strip interpretations provided by tele techs Unit orientation includes 1 day for EPIC training, 1 day with the unit educator, and 1 day on the floor with an RN Scrubs of any color are permitted Local rate applies to clinicians with a permanent address within 50 miles of the facility, with no radius restriction on eligibility COVID vaccination is not required for this position American Traveler Job ID P-749595.
