Full‑Time Night Custodian – 3:30 pm–11:30 pm Location: Odessa High School (Odessa, CBMS, OSE, SMECC). Position type: Facilities/Custodial/Custodian. Posted May 19 2025. Start date: ASAP. Duration: 12‑month. Closing date: Until filled. POSITION OVERVIEW Under the direction of the Chief Custodian, the Custodian maintains a safe, healthy and clean building. Responsibilities include sweeping, mopping, waxing, buffing, vacuuming, cleaning walls, ceilings, windows, furniture, lights, bathrooms, performing minor preventive maintenance, snow removal and grounds work, and ensuring compliance with state rules and district policies. SALARY RANGE The salary range for this role can be found via the link: Salary Scales. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Night shift (starting after 1 pm). Essential employee position; flexibility required as hours may change. Perform sweeping; mopping; waxing; vacuuming; cleaning walls, ceilings, windows, furniture, lights, bathrooms; shampooing carpets; moving furniture and supplies. Clean outside grounds; load/unload trucks; shoveling snow and ice; cutting grass and trimming. Open and close building; secure alarm system. Minor maintenance: replace light bulbs, paint, help clean boilers, maintain lawn mowers, trimmers, vacuum cleaners, buffers. Drive vehicles to pick up equipment, supplies, parts and mail. Assist with deliveries, unloading trucks, storing supplies. Give supplies to classrooms, bathrooms and other building areas. Empty wastebaskets; pick up trash; assist recycling program. Perform other custodial or maintenance duties as assigned by the Chief Custodian, principal or buildings and grounds supervisor. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS High School Diploma or GED – preferred. Valid Class D Driver’s License with a good driving record. Knowledge of cleaning materials, methods, equipment and procedures. Ability to perform minor maintenance. Ability to follow oral or written directions. Ability to work cooperatively with teachers, students, administrators, co‑workers and the public. Good physical health and strength to lift and clean routinely. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS The employee will regularly talk, express ideas, give directions verbally, learn, recall and apply skills, and perform sustained moderate physical effort, operating commercial equipment, moving objects weighing 40–50 pounds, and standing continuously. PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS The work involves exposure to materials, equipment and situations requiring safety precautions and protective equipment. Risks and hazards can be minimized with proper training and safety practices. PRE‑EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS Criminal background check and tuberculosis test required.
