POSITION SUMMARY:

The Radiology Tech Assistant functions under the supervision of a registered technologist and/or registered nurse. This position will assist the technologist and/or nurse with performing general patient care and administrative and clerical duties that assists in the delivery of primary health care and patient care management under the direction of a physician. These duties are delegated in relation to the individual's degree of training, in accordance with the objectives and policies of the organization and respective state laws governing such action and activities. Responsible to work with patients in clinic operations as directed by the tech and/or nurse.

POSITION EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School Diploma, GED or equivalent.
• LMRT, Medical Assistant PCT or CNA certificate from an accredited school preferred.
• Phlebotomy certificate from an accredited school preferred.
• American Heart Association BLS required.
• Must be able to be sensitive to cultural and bilingual issues.
• Willingness to be crossed trained to other areas.
• Organizational skills is necessary
• Good written and verbal communication skills required.
• Ability to read, write and speak English required, Spanish preferred.
• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with all levels of staff and physicians.

JOB KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE:

• (Two (2) years minimum experience in a healthcare setting as an LMRT, MA, PCT or CNA preferred.
• Phlebotomy training preferred.
• IV starting skills preferred.
• Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Must have excellent customer service skills.
• Critical thinking skills and the ability to deal with difficult people, required.
• Requires reasoning ability and good independent judgment.
• Computer skills required with knowledge of Microsoft Office, Internet, etc.

Responsibilities:

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Responsible for answering modality phone extensions and directing calls where needed.
• Obtains prior imaging, imaging reports, biopsy pathology reports, and prepare all forms necessary for ordered exam.
• Review modality schedule(s) and make corrections as needed.
• Completes all pre-procedure documentation and lab work necessary for ordered exam.
• Prepare exam rooms, keeping the rooms neat, clean and well stocked with needed supplies.
• Prepare and position patients for the technologist and/or physician in exam room.
• Able to start IV's on all patients.
• Responsible for keeping inventory well stocked and ordering supplies, as needed.
• Willingness to be crossed trained to other areas, as needed.
• Communicates with the nursing and radiology modalities when transporting a patient in or out of the area.
• Logs out all patients from the nursing units or notifies patient's nurse.
• Sanitizes all wheelchairs and stretcher before and after every patient, every time.
• Greets all patients and families in a professional and caring manner.
• Protects patient privacy during transport (i.e. cover with blanket).
• Works collaboratively with nursing and radiology staff for best transport methods and patient care.
• Obtains patient identifiers as required by policy and National Patient Safety Goals (NPSG) for transport.
• Utilizes proper body mechanics during transports.
• Effectively prioritizes workload and assignments.
• Professionally communicates transport delays to staff.
• Notifies nurse before disconnecting oxygen and monitoring equipment and upon return for reconnection.
• Assists technologists and other staff with transfer of patients on and off imaging tables, other tables, etc.

B. Working Conditions : The individual spends over 95% of his/her time in an air-conditioned environment with varying exposures to noise. There is protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. The position does have low exposure to malodorous, infectious body fluids from patients and some minimal exposure to noxious smells from cleansing agents.

C. Occupational Exposure: This position has minimal to no exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues and is an OSHA Category III (although situations can be imagined or hypothesized under which anyone, anywhere, might encounter potential exposure to body fluids). Person who performs these duties are not called upon as part of their employment to perform or assist in emergency medical care or first aid or to be potentially exposed in some other way.
