Appeals Processing Clerk

Brief Description of Duties:

• Processes all newly filed notices of appeal, petitions for review of agency decisions, special writs, writs of mandamus, applications for allowance of appeals, and bar governance matters.
• Dockets all relevant information, setting and assigning case tickets.
• Proofreads all elements of each new appeal and consults with the supervisor as needed. Identifies discrepancies in case records and refers complex issues to the supervisor.
• Processes and maintains assigned case files using established court procedures. Reviews legal findings for completeness and procedural compliance.
• Ensures all submissions are properly coded and are in compliance with court rules, and dockets or rejects submissions in line with Public Office procedures.
• Engages and communicates with parties regarding non-compliant submissions and recommends appropriate actions for resolution.
• Coordinates with Court of Appeals and Superior Court staff to secure inmate information from the applicable D.C. or Federal systems.
• Maintains and distributes informational materials and updates litigant, entity, and attorney data as needed.
• Provides in-person office coverage on a rotating schedule.
