Intermodal Logistics Coordinator

StaffBuffalo is working with a growing logistics and transportation organization in the Buffalo area to hire an Intermodal Logistics Coordinator , offering a base salary of $70,000 - $75,000, plus monthly commission potential that can add approximately $10,000 - $20,000 annually based on performance.

This opportunity is designed for an experienced logistics professional with hands-on container and intermodal freight experience who understands the moving pieces involved in coordinating shipments through ports, rail ramps, and domestic transportation networks. The ideal candidate can step into a busy operation, independently manage shipments, and anticipate issues before they result in delays or additional costs.

In this role, you will manage freight from start to finish, coordinating with customers, carriers, terminals, ports, rail providers, and other transportation partners. You will arrange transportation, negotiate rates, track container movements, maintain shipment documentation, and troubleshoot issues throughout the lifecycle of each shipment.

You will join a small, experienced operations team where coordinators take ownership of their freight and customer relationships. This environment is best suited for someone who is calm under pressure, highly organized, proactive, and comfortable making decisions in a time-sensitive logistics environment.

Responsibilities:

• Coordinate containerized and intermodal freight movements, including drayage and domestic transportation.
• Manage shipments moving through ports, rail ramps, terminals, warehouses, and customer locations.
• Review delivery orders and enter accurate shipment information into the Transportation Management System (TMS).
• Track container availability, pickup, transit, delivery, and equipment return while providing proactive shipment updates.
• Coordinate with steamship lines, rail providers, terminals, drayage carriers, customers, and other transportation partners.
• Negotiate freight rates and arrange transportation with qualified carrier partners.
• Monitor shipment milestones and proactively address issues that could result in delays, detention, demurrage, storage, or other additional costs.
• Troubleshoot time-sensitive shipment issues and communicate solutions to customers and transportation partners.
• Maintain accurate bills of lading, delivery orders, shipment records, and other transportation documentation.
• Build and maintain strong carrier and customer relationships while identifying additional transportation resources as needed.
  

Qualifications:

• Hands-on experience coordinating containerized or intermodal freight is required.
• Working knowledge of drayage, ports, rail ramps, steamship lines, container tracking, and bills of lading.
• Experience independently tracking container shipments and coordinating pickup and delivery activity.
• Previous experience within freight forwarding, drayage, intermodal transportation, transportation brokerage, import/export logistics, or a related environment.
• Experience working within a Transportation Management System (TMS).
• Strong communication skills with the ability to coordinate effectively across customers, carriers, and transportation partners.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple active shipments and deadlines simultaneously.
• Ability to remain organized and solutions-focused when responding to changing schedules, delays, and other transportation challenges.
• Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business, or a related field is a plus.
