Job Opportunity

Position Overview

The organization is seeking a qualified professional to assist the Director of Nursing Services in planning, organizing, developing, and directing the daily functions of the Nursing Department. The role ensures adherence to current Federal, State, and local regulations while maintaining high standards of quality care.

Work Schedule

This position requires availability Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 5 PM, with variable days and weekends for staffing or patient needs. On-call responsibilities are also a part of this role.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred.
• Current registered nurse license in the state of practice.
• Two (2) years in a management or leadership position, in addition to long-term care experience, preferred.
• Acute/Rehabilitation experience preferred.
• Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

Clinical Component

• Nursing Process:
  
  
  • Develop and implement nursing standards, policies, and procedures for all patient/resident populations.
  • Act as a patient/resident advocate, ensuring confidentiality and adherence to rights.
  • Guide staff nurses in recognizing potential issues and mobilizing resources for care.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure safe, comprehensive patient care.
• Quality Improvement:
  
  
  • Participate in quality improvement activities and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Attend mandatory committee meetings and maintain ongoing education certifications.
  • Monitor the quality of medical records and participate in data collection for improvement initiatives.

Educational Component

• Patient/Resident Education:
  
  
  • Participate in the development of patient/resident education plans and assist staff with complex learning needs.
• Staff Education:
  
  
  • Identify staff learning needs and facilitate educational programs for continuous improvement.
• Student Affiliations:
  
  
  • Provide opportunities for nursing students and act as preceptor as appropriate.

Management Component

• Evaluate clinical competency, direct nursing personnel in emergencies, and make recommendations for quality care improvements.
• Participate in the implementation of new facility programs and services.
• Manage on-call schedules and ensure compliance with attendance policies.
• Assume duties of the Director of Nursing Services in their absence as needed.

Specific Requirements

• Unencumbered, active license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Maine.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English.
• Capacity to make independent decisions and handle complex interpersonal situations.
• Knowledge of nursing and medical practices, regulations, and guidelines for long-term care.
• Leadership and supervisory abilities with a willingness to collaborate with all personnel.
• Patience, tact, and enthusiasm for working with diverse patient populations.
