About the Role

The Company is seeking an Associate General Counsel for Intellectual Property to serve as a strategic business partner at the intersection of patent and product counsel. The successful candidate will be embedded with engineering, product, and commercial leaders to identify patentable inventions, drive claim strategy, conduct freedom-to-operate analyses, and surface monetization opportunities. This role is heavily focused on strategic, value-creating IP work, and the attorney will also act as a first-line legal traffic cop for various non-IP legal issues, routing them to the appropriate subject-matter experts. The position requires a JD from an accredited U.S. law school, admission to at least one U.S. state bar, USPTO registration, a minimum of 6 years of patent law experience, and a technical degree in a relevant discipline. Key responsibilities for the Associate General Counsel include strategic business partnership, strategic patent development, and portfolio management, as well as IP risk, disputes, and commercial support. The ideal candidate will have a strategic mindset on patents, be technically fluent in the assigned domains, and have a strong background in competitive claim drafting, FTO opinions, and patent monetization. The role demands a professional who operates as a business partner, not just a service provider, and who can effectively manage outside counsel and projects. Preferred qualifications include a technical background in materials science, chemistry, chemical or electrical engineering, applied physics, or a related discipline, with a focus on areas such as SiC, crystal growth, thermal management materials, or advanced ceramics.
