Vanderbilt’s mission is to advance health and wellness through preeminent programs in patient care, education, and research.**Organization:**VMG Learning**Job Summary:**The Administrative Fellowship is a two-year opportunity working with the CEO and senior leaders of the Vanderbilt Hospitals and Clinic. This position will gain broad exposure to an academic medical center and develop a better understanding of operations, finances, physician services, and patient care services while working on various in-depth projects. Program Qualifications Applicants to the Vanderbilt Health Administrative Fellowship Program must be masters-level graduates from programs in Health Care Administration, Business Administration or Public Health. Program Structure Within the Vanderbilt Health Administrative Fellowship Program, the 2027-2029 cohort will host one Administrative Fellow. The fellow will follow the See One, Do One, Lead One structure. Application Timeline Application Opens: July 1, 2026 Application Deadline: on or before 11:59 pm CST on Tuesday, August 19, 2026. Application requirements received after the deadline will not be considered. Interviews: Late August-September Offers Made: Late September Fellowship Dates: July 1, 2027-June 30, 2029 Informational Webinars: Late July, details coming soon Required Application Materials: Essay responses to the following prompts (500 words limit for each prompt-1500 words total): Pick 3 words to describe yourself and explain why you chose them. What are the 3-4 things that every health system CEO should have on his or her agenda? What is the most common mistake (pick one) healthcare leaders make? How could this mistake be avoided? Three signed recommendation letters (one from a faculty member from your graduate level academic discipline, one from professional/work experience, and one additional).\*\* Unofficial Graduate School Transcript(s). \*Please do not submit a cover letter. If needed, recommenders may email the letter for you to the program recruiter, View email address on click.appcast.io RESPONSIBILITIES• Demonstrates ability to implement change for positive outcomes• Collaborates with Department Heads and appropriate Hospital or Clinic Directors to create goals and service standards for departments.• Documents service standards in appropriate format.• Creates and provides training and educational tools for use throughout entity.• Utilizes effective communication skills to guide staff/teams toward an improved outcome• Participates in/Observes day-to-day departmental activities/operations to identify process inefficiencies and potential areas that need improvement.• Communicates effectively orally and in writing to multidisciplinary team members and administrative leadership.• Gathers/Analyzes and presents data to guide future outcomes• Gathers data during assessment phase and gains an understanding of departmental functions• Uses benchmarking tools to compare activities of internal departments to the ideal standard.• Uses analyses to develop productivity targets, performance measures and redesign the workflow process.• Makes recommendations for improvement to administrative leadership based on data analyses.• Provides data analysis for various projects as assigned.• Demonstrates fiscal accountability• Evaluates organizational functions and structure to determine the allocation and utilization of resources.• Identifies and initiates implementation of opportunities to improve efficiencies• Works with financial staff to help project future budgetary needs based on implementation of new processes as well as anticipated changes within the department.• Works with Financial Manager for Hospital Administration to model the impact of operational and process changes on the organization.TECHNICAL CAPABILITIESOur professional administrative functions include critical supporting roles in information technology and informatics, finance, administration, legal and community affairs, human resources, communications and marketing, development, facilities, and many more.At our growing health system, we support each other and encourage excellence among all who are part of our workforce.
