A growing specialty food retailer in Jersey City is looking for a hands-on Controller to own the full accounting function while working directly with warehouse, logistics, purchasing, production, and store teams.Must-HavesBachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field5+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience with direct management responsibilityExperience in inventory-intensive environments: food, consumer products, retail, distribution, or manufacturingComfortable working on-site and operationally integrated, not desk-onlyAdvanced Excel skills including financial modelingERP system experienceAbout the CompanyOur client is a growing specialty food retailer expanding its footprint across retail, warehouse, and production operations in the U.S. This is a company where finance works side by side with operations, not in isolation from it.What You'll DoManage the full daily accounting operation: general ledger, AP/AR, payroll oversight, cash management, month-end and year-end closePrepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements with analysis tied to profitability and operational efficiencyBuild and monitor budgets, maintain cash flow projections, and support leadership with financial modeling for strategic planningOwn inventory accounting across warehouse and retail locations: monitor levels, review aging and expiration reports, analyze slow-moving or excess inventoryPartner directly with operations on action plans (promotions, discounts, repackaging) to reduce waste and protect marginsMaintain internal controls, ensure compliance with accounting standards and tax regulations, and coordinate external auditsConduct regular on-site walkthroughs with warehouse, logistics, purchasing, and store teamsQualificationsCPA, CMA, or equivalent certification preferredDirect experience in specialty food retail, food distribution, or perishable goods inventory management a plusExperience with aging, expiration, and shrink reporting in retail or warehouse settingsFamiliarity with waste reduction and margin optimization in food or consumer productsMulti-location retail or warehouse accounting experience a plusBenefitsMedical, dental, and vision coverage401(k)Paid time off and holidaysApply now to learn more about this opportunity.
