Job Description

The Infection Preventionist (IP) is responsible for the comprehensive surveillance, analysis, interpretation, and reporting of healthcare-associated infections (HAI). The IP will monitor reportable conditions, educate employees on infection prevention, and develop health system policies and procedures to ensure adherence to infection prevention and control standards as defined by recognized agencies.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct surveillance and analysis of healthcare-associated infections.
• Monitor and report on infection control outcomes in compliance with CMS requirements.
• Develop and implement the Infection Prevention and Control Plan in accordance with regulatory agencies and best practices.
• Educate staff, patients, and visitors on infection prevention and control measures.
• Collect, analyze, and interpret infection control data, maintaining statistical reports as required.
• Serve as a resource for all areas regarding infection prevention and control.
• Participate in the Infection Prevention and Control Committee, contributing to goal setting and risk assessments.
• Conduct evidence-based research to inform best practices in infection control.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a healthcare-related field (Nursing, Public Health, Epidemiology, Microbiology, or similar).
• Master's degree in a healthcare-related field (MPH, MSN) preferred.
• Certification in Infection Control (CIC) required.
• Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) preferred.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Minimum of 3 years of acute care/infection control experience, including data collection.
• Experience with performance improvement and risk management initiatives.
• Familiarity with basic statistics and epidemiological principles.
• Long-term care infection control experience is a plus.
