Director of Software Engineering - HR Technology

Salary: $61,000 - 101,000 per year Requirements:

• Formal training or certification in software engineering concepts, with 10+ years of applied experience and 5+ years leading technologists through complex technical challenges.
• Proven experience leading mission-critical platforms with high availability, operational excellence, and measurable outcomes.
• Experience delivering modern web and API platforms, distributed systems, microservices or service-oriented architectures, and integration-heavy solutions.
• Strong knowledge of cloud-native engineering, such as AWS or an equivalent, including reliability, security, cost management, and SDLC automation.
• Ability to influence senior business, product, and technology stakeholders and clearly communicate strategy, risks, and delivery status.
• Understanding of engineering controls and security, including identity and access management, data privacy, secure SDLC, vulnerability management, and audit and compliance expectations.
• Strong people leadership capabilities, including hiring, mentoring, talent development, and building inclusive, high-performing teams.
• Experience adopting agentic AI-enabled engineering practices using enterprise-authorized tools, setting expectations for human validation and quality gates, measuring outcomes, and securely handling sensitive inputs and outputs.
• Understanding of responsible AI use and controls in engineering workflows, including data sensitivity and security and resiliency considerations, with the ability to influence safe scaling and reuse.
• Preferred: Experience with HR technology and Talent Acquisition workflows, including ATS/CRM platforms, candidate pipelines, interview scheduling, offers, background checks, and onboarding.
• Preferred: Experience integrating talent and HR applications with enterprise HR suites such as Oracle HCM and broader vendor ecosystems.
• Preferred: Familiarity with modern full-stack engineering, including React/TypeScript and enterprise design systems.
• Preferred: Backend and API expertise with Java/Spring Boot and GraphQL/REST API design, versioning, and governance.
• Preferred: Knowledge of security and data fundamentals, including OAuth2/OIDC, service-to-service security, and data persistence technologies such as PostgreSQL/Aurora or graph stores such as Neptune.
• Preferred: Experience with Kafka/MSK event-driven architectures, including schema evolution, idempotency, and operational controls such as DLQs.
• Preferred: Experience with platform engineering and delivery practices, including CI/CD, automated testing, IaC (Terraform/CloudFormation/CDK), and containers (ECS/EKS), plus setting service blueprints, API/event contract governance, SLO/SLI frameworks, and responsible AI-assisted engineering standards.

• Set the engineering vision and execute the roadmap for our Talent Acquisition platform, balancing user experience, speed to market, reliability, and control requirements.
• Lead multiple cross-functional engineering teams spanning full stack, backend, platform and integration, and SRE/operations; oversee organizational design, hiring, coaching, performance, and succession planning.
• Direct platform architecture and modernization, including cloud-native patterns, domain-driven service boundaries, API and event strategies, and reusable platform capabilities.
• Own delivery and operations end to end, including production readiness, incident management, reliability and SLOs, observability, cost governance, and continuous improvement.
• Oversee integrations with HR workforce and compensation systems, workflow tools, identity and access systems, analytics, and external Talent Acquisition vendors, ensuring resilient patterns and strong data contracts.
• Establish and uphold engineering governance, including secure coding, architecture reviews, SDLC controls, change management, audit readiness, and measurable engineering KPIs.
• Partner with Product, UX, and HR stakeholders to turn strategy into outcomes, navigate trade-offs, and address business needs.
• Manage third-party vendor and platform relationships, covering due diligence, technical fit, security posture, delivery oversight, and commercial and operational accountability.
• Foster an inclusive, accountable engineering culture with high standards and continuous learning, and promote responsible use of AI-assisted development with appropriate safeguards.
• Set direction and governance for agentic AI-enabled engineering and SDLC/TLM automation, driving measurable improvements in speed, quality, and operational outcomes while establishing safeguards for validation, security, resilience, traceability, and reuse.
• Apply knowledge of SDLC toolchains, including enterprise-authorized AI-assisted development and automation capabilities, to increase automation value and support capacity initiatives at scale.
