Civil Designer

Job Description AECOM’s Water Business Line is seeking a creative and highly motivated Civil Designer specializing in grading earthwork and pipeline design for immediate employment. This technical role works with engineers and project managers on a variety of projects within the Mining Division, focusing on heavy civil grading, roads, dams, utilities and pipelines for large mines. Responsibilities Initiate and develop engineering drawings through completion for assigned projects in conformance with the requirements, applicable codes, and design criteria established by the project’s discipline engineers. Complete design assignments of moderate complexity under direct supervision. Develop engineering drawings of moderate complexity under general supervision. Apply a solid level of understanding within a specific discipline and be familiar with related codes, permits, and software applications. Prepare designs and drawings using project specifications and discipline‑associated written and verbal instructions in accordance with established practices, standards, and procedures. Support design calculations and verify design calculations to support overall project design. Review vendor documents and discipline supplier documents for accuracy. Contribute to material take‑offs and basic cost estimating methods for the discipline. Identify potential change control requirements. Understand equipment and material lists for the discipline. Demonstrate extensive experience with Autodesk Civil3D through release2025, with an emphasis on complex and advanced surface modeling and pipeline modeling capabilities. Take general direction and progress from sketches to all stages of design. Lead grading design, surface modeling, and site development for tailing storage facilities, starter dams, foundations, embankments, seepage ponds, and related infrastructure. Lead civil/site development for access and haul roads, drainage channels, dams, slope stabilization, retaining walls, detention ponds, and other site infrastructure. Prepare detailed calculation packages for earthwork quantities, reservoir/storage capacity, and tailing storage. Process a variety of data sources to build existing base surfaces from LiDAR, survey points, break lines, DEMs, and contours. Transform data across coordinate systems. Manage survey and client data through the project life cycle. Work under limited supervision while performing routine and non‑routine complex design assignments requiring judgment. Provide leadership and direction for specific CAD technologies assigned to the project team. Qualifications Minimum Requirements BA/BS degree + 6 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education. Preferred Qualifications Experience with Autodesk AutoCAD Civil3D. Strong technical progression within civil engineering and design. Comprehensive knowledge of industry standards. Experience with Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC). Experience with ProjectWise. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel. Experience with Google Earth. Experience with NavisWorks. Experience with ESRI GIS, Blue Marble Global Mapper, or other GIS applications. Experience with other software such as InfraWorks, ReCap, Bluebeam, Revit (a plus).
