Client Development Manager

Job Description
Relationship Development and Opportunity Origination | Law Firms and Professional Services
\nStructure: Nonexclusive 1099 independent contractor
\nLocation: Remote, United States
\nCompensation: Performance-based and uncapped
\nPortfolio: No inherited book of business
\n \nABOUT PRACTICA
\nPractica is an early-stage advisory firm entering its first structured commercial expansion phase. We have spent approximately two years developing our advisory model, services, intellectual property, systems, and market focus. We are now building the commercial and account-leadership capabilities required to expand responsibly.
\n \nWe help law firms and other professional-services organizations align communication, governance, process, technology, and execution. Our work is grounded in five values: Clarity, Voice, Dignity, Accountability, and Wellness.
\n \nPractica currently serves the Northeast, the DMV, and South Florida. Longer-term expansion plans include California, Houston, Chicago, and other major professional-services markets. This is a build-stage environment. Participants will help shape the operating model rather than inherit a mature national sales organization.
\n \nTHE OPPORTUNITY
\nThe Client Development Manager is a relationship-creation and new-business-development role. This person opens doors, establishes credible professional connections, identifies emerging needs, creates forward movement, and brings the appropriate senior Practica resource into qualified conversations.
\nPractica does not currently provide an established book of accounts. The role begins with creating relationships and originating opportunities, not maintaining a mature assigned portfolio.
\nThis opportunity may suit professionals navigating a career transition, building a portfolio of engagements, or seeking flexible, performance-based work and practical commercial experience. It is not designed to provide the immediate predictability of a salaried W-2 position.
\n \nWHAT YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE
\n• Identify and thoughtfully approach prospective law-firm and professional-services relationships within an agreed market or network.
\n• Create interest through credible conversation, professional outreach, referrals, industry participation, and relationship-based engagement.
\n• Listen for organizational signals involving communication, client development, technology, governance, role clarity, execution, or workplace trust.
\n• Qualify potential needs without overstating your expertise or attempting to design every solution independently.
\n• Introduce the Strategic Account Director, Managing Principal, or another appropriate Practica advisor with sufficient context to preserve trust and momentum.
\n• Maintain accurate relationship, activity, commitment, and opportunity records in Practica’s designated systems.
\n• Follow through consistently, communicate candidly, and protect the dignity and time of prospects, clients, and colleagues.
\n• Share market intelligence and help improve Practica’s messaging, commercial process, and client experience.
\n• When separately assigned, coordinate account stewardship as the client’s day-to-day point of contact.
\n \nWHAT THIS ROLE IS, AND IS NOT
\nThis is an opportunity to help build Practica while developing your commercial capability, professional visibility, relationships, and income. It may coexist with an active employment search or other nonconflicting professional work.
\nIt is not a traditional Client Relationship Manager position with accounts assigned on the first day. It is also not a salaried sales-development position with guaranteed leads, fixed hours, or guaranteed earnings.
\nSuccess requires initiative, patience, resilience, disciplined follow-through, and comfort working within an organization at the beginning of its structured expansion phase.
\n \nCOMPENSATION ARCHITECTURE
\nCompensation is uncapped and based on qualifying collected revenue:
\n• Originated revenue: 7.5% through $75,000 in cumulative qualifying collected revenue; 10% on the incremental portion from $75,001 through $150,000; and 12.5% on the incremental portion above $150,000.
\n• Expansion revenue: 5% on qualifying collected expansion revenue attributable to the consultant’s contribution.
\n• Continuation or renewal revenue: 2.5% on qualifying collected revenue after the first contract year, for up to 12 additional months.
\n• Assigned account stewardship: 5% on qualifying collected revenue for accounts formally assigned to the consultant for ongoing coordination and relationship stewardship.
\n• Paid development: $30 per hour for onboarding, training, observation, and professional-development activities expressly authorized in advance.
\nOrigination, expansion, continuation, and stewardship are distinct contributions. A consultant may earn from more than one category when the written attribution and assignment requirements are satisfied.
\n \nACCOUNT STEWARDSHIP AND DEVELOPMENT PATH
\nAs Practica’s portfolio grows, Client Development Managers may be offered responsibility for assigned account stewardship. An assignment may include communication coordination, meeting preparation, commitment tracking, client follow-through, issue escalation, renewal readiness, and identification of potential expansion needs.
\nEach assignment will define the client, scope, effective date, compensation, executive sponsor, reporting expectations, and reassignment rights.
\nStrong performance may support consideration for broader account leadership, Strategic Account Director responsibilities, or future organizational leadership opportunities. Advancement is based on demonstrated capability and business need and is not guaranteed.
\n \nWHAT WE VALUE
\n• Interpersonal intelligence, curiosity, judgment, and the ability to establish trust without forcing familiarity.
\n• Clear, concise, and persuasive verbal and written communication.
\n• Professional presence with executives, attorneys, administrators, and other sophisticated stakeholders.
\n• Organized follow-through and disciplined relationship records.
\n• Coachability, learning agility, and sound judgment about when to involve a senior resource.
\n• Commercial curiosity and the ability to recognize opportunity without treating every interaction as a transaction.
\n• Resilience, ethical judgment, accountability, and respect for confidential information.
\n• Relevant experience in relationship development, client service, business development, professional services, law firms, consulting, communications, technology, operations, or an adjacent field. No specific degree is required.
\n \nONBOARDING, LEARNING, AND TRAVEL
\nAuthorized onboarding, role-specific learning, observation, and professional-development activities are currently compensated at $30 per hour, generally in four-hour learning blocks. Scope, schedule, compensation, and approved expenses will be confirmed in writing before participation.
\nPractica prefers onboarding and role-specific training at its Bethesda, Maryland office when practical. Remote participation may be arranged when geography or other considerations make in-person attendance unreasonable.
\nLimited travel may be requested for authorized learning or observation. Required travel and reimbursement for reasonable, necessary, and preapproved expenses will be confirmed in writing. Independently selected business-development expenses are ordinarily the consultant’s responsibility unless authorized in advance.
\n \nIMPORTANT ENGAGEMENT DISCLOSURES
\n• This is a nonexclusive 1099 independent-contractor opportunity, not employment.
\n• There is no base salary, hourly employment wage, employee benefits package, or guaranteed compensation.
\n• Commissions are calculated on qualifying collected revenue, not merely proposed, contracted, or invoiced revenue.
\n• Practica does not guarantee transactions, assignments, account stewardship, renewals, expansion revenue, or earnings.
\n• Consultants retain flexibility in organizing their methods and time, subject to agreed client responsibilities, ethical requirements, information-security obligations, and defined outcomes.
\n• Consultants may maintain other clients, employment searches, or appropriate professional pursuits, provided conflicts and confidentiality obligations are disclosed and managed.
\n• Consultants may not modify Practica pricing, execute agreements, make unauthorized representations, or bind Practica without written authority.
\n• The written independent-contractor agreement governs final compensation definitions, attribution rules, payment timing, and engagement terms.
\n \nHOW SUCCESS WILL BE EVALUATED
\n• Quality and relevance of relationships initiated and developed.
\n• Credibility and completeness of qualified opportunities introduced.
\n• Consistency of follow-through and accuracy of relationship records.
\n• Professional judgment, communication quality, and appropriate use of senior resources.
\n• Contribution to collected revenue, expansion, continuation, and assigned stewardship outcomes.
\n• Demonstrated growth in commercial capability and account-management readiness.
\n \nCANDIDATE PERSPECTIVE
\nWe welcome thoughtful questions about Practica’s maturity, client base, commercial model, support structure, compensation timing, and development path. A transparent decision on either side is a successful outcome.
\n \nPractica, LLC evaluates candidates based on demonstrated capability, judgment, potential, and alignment with the work. Reasonable accommodations are available throughout the selection process.
