Role Description The Criminal Defense Lawyer will provide legal representation to clients charged with criminal offenses, including counseling clients on their rights, options, and case strategy. Day-to-day responsibilities include conducting legal research, reviewing discovery, drafting motions and pleadings, negotiating with prosecutors, and appearing in court for hearings, trials, and sentencings. The role also involves interviewing clients, assessing evidence, preparing case files, and maintaining organized, accurate documentation. This is a full-time, on-site role located in Southfield, MI, requiring regular presence in the office and courts as well as reliable communication with clients and staff. Qualifications Active license to practice law in the State of Michigan and in good standing with the Michigan Bar. A minimum of two years experience in criminal practice, either prosecution or defense, which would include courtroom advocacy, motion practice, and case preparation. Strong legal research and writing abilities, including drafting briefs, motions, and other legal documents. Effective client communication, interviewing, and negotiation skills, with the ability to explain complex legal issues clearly. High level of professionalism, ethical judgment, and discretion in handling sensitive and confidential matters. Ability to manage multiple cases, meet deadlines, and work independently while collaborating with office staff. Familiarity with Michigan criminal procedure, rules of evidence, and court practices is preferred. Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school. Compensation $100,000 to $150,000 annually.
