Lead Developer, Applications Development

We are seeking a Technical Lead to drive the development and delivery of applications and services within TransUnion's global platform ecosystem. This role is a remote Technical Lead responsible for providing technical direction while leading and growing a team of engineers. You will play a key role in building a new engineering team in Costa Rica, supporting global operations and collaborating with teams across the US and India. This position requires strong technical expertise, leadership skills, and a high level of ownership to ensure successful delivery of scalable and high-quality solutions.

Technical Leadership & Delivery

• Define and drive the technical direction, architecture, and design of applications and services
• Lead the development of scalable, cloud-based solutions and platform components
• Ensure high standards of code quality, performance, and security
• Provide hands-on technical guidance to the team when needed
• Drive end-to-end ownership of projects from design through delivery

People Management & Team Leadership

• Lead a team of engineers, including: DevOps Engineer(s) and Full Stack / Cloud Developer(s)
• Provide coaching, mentoring, and performance guidance
• Support team growth and capability development
• Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, and collaboration

Collaboration & Stakeholder Management

• Collaborate with global teams across US, India, and Costa Rica
• Ensure alignment across teams and stakeholders to deliver solutions effectively
• Work closely with engineering, platform, and business teams to translate requirements into technical solutions

Engineering Excellence & Innovation

• Promote modern engineering practices, including Agile development and continuous improvement
• Encourage the use of AI tools to improve productivity and development workflows (e.g., coding assistance, automation)
• Support modernization and optimization of existing platforms and services

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field
• 7+ years of experience in software development
• 5+ years of experience in technical leadership and/or people management roles
• Proven experience leading teams with direct reports
• Strong experience in:
  • Application design and system architecture
  • Cloud-based development environments
  • Service-oriented architectures and APIs
• Hands-on experience with.NET or Java (or both)
• Strong problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills

Nice to have

• Experience leading distributed or global teams
• Familiarity with development tools such as VS Code
• Experience with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines
• Experience working in platform or large-scale enterprise environments
• Familiarity with AI tools used in software development workflows

This is a remote position which may require occasional in-person attendance at work-related events at the discretion of management.
