Position Overview

The Director of Human Resources is a hands-on business partner responsible for leading and implementing our people strategy for approximately 400 employees across multiple locations. The ideal candidate will lead and develop our HR team, build strong partnerships, develop talent, support a culture of trust and inclusion, and provide practical solutions to organizational needs.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Serve as a strategic HR partner and member of the executive leadership team

• Lead, coach, and develop the HR team while partnering with managers to strengthen leadership and management practices

• Provide guidance on employee relations, investigations, performance management, leaves, accommodations, employment law, and HR compliance

• Develop practical manager training on interviewing, supervision, documentation, employee relations, and HR best practices

• Support recruitment, retention, workforce planning, succession planning, and employee development, particularly for critical and hard-to-fill roles

• Lead HR technology, reporting, and process improvements to increase efficiency and support data-informed decisions

• Partner with internal and external experts on union matters, grievances, collective bargaining, and contract administration

• Maintain a visible presence across programs and locations while supporting our frontline, hourly, and direct care workforce

• Partner with leadership on organizational development, culture, workplace safety, risk management, and other strategic people initiatives

Qualifications and Skills

• Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, Organizational Development, or a related field, or equivalent experience

• Significant progressive HR experience, including experience leading an HR function or team

• Strong employee relations, investigation, employment law, and HR compliance experience; Massachusetts experience strongly preferred

• Experience coaching and developing HR professionals and managers

• Experience supporting frontline, hourly, or direct care employees in a multi-location environment

• Strong HR technology, communication, facilitation, leadership, and relationship-building skills

• Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced, complex environment

• Behavioral health, mental health, healthcare, human services, or nonprofit experience strongly preferred

• Union and labor relations experience preferred; candidates with strong HR experience and a willingness to learn will also be considered
