Position Overview Senior Medical Science Liaison (MSL) – an integral member of Otsuka’s customer engagement ecosystem. The MSL contributes to the ecosystem strategic business plan, identifies key stakeholders, and provides clinical, scientific and health‑economic information related to nephrology and immunology disease states. This field‑based position engages key influencers, local practice leaders, healthcare providers, and patient groups to improve patient outcomes in alignment with Otsuka’s objectives. Key Responsibilities Provide a clinical and scientific perspective to the local execution plan addressing customer challenges and opportunities. Build, cultivate, and leverage external relationships with key scientific and medical customers (KIs, LPLs, KDMs, patient advocacy) within the territory. Maintain a comprehensive understanding of the ecosystem and align initiatives with Otsuka’s patient‑centric strategy. Serve as a credible source of evidence‑based information, demonstrating the value of Otsuka products to providers and stakeholders. Build and nurture internal working relationships across the matrix team for an enterprise approach. Accountable to regional Field Medical Affairs leadership for shaping and executing local medical strategies within planned timelines. Lead special projects and incremental point roles within FMA. Disseminate disease‑state and healthcare landscape information to field customers. Provide clinical and data‑focused training for promotional and disease‑state speakers; may serve as part of Otsuka’s speaker bureau. Collect and submit medical insights that drive decision making and prioritization of evidence generation. Assist with Otsuka’s clinical trials program, including registrational, post‑marketing, ISTs, health‑economic research, and selective medical collaborations. Mentor peers, contribute to functional and therapeutic development, and support safety & pharmacovigilance, sales training, and the Field Medical Center of Excellence. Qualifications MD/DO, PharmD, or PhD in life sciences. Prior MSL experience supporting Nephrology or related medical affairs roles. Deep understanding of health‑system interconnectivity and patient‑care delivery. Minimum 5+ years in pharmaceutical medical affairs. Outstanding business acumen and familiarity with Otsuka’s model, competitors, and market dynamics. Excellent communication, collaboration, and conflict‑resolution skills. Leadership ability and strategic project management. Strong regulatory and compliance knowledge. Adaptability to ambiguous, transforming environments. Behavioral alignment with Otsuka’s corporate brand (Perseverance, Unconventional Thinking, Humility). Business travel up to 70% of time. Preferred living location: Chicago.
