The Credit & Risk Manager is responsible for establishing and administering the company's enterprise-wide credit, risk management, and payment protection programs. This position plays a critical role in protecting company assets, minimizing bad debt exposure, preserving lien and bond rights, and ensuring that appropriate financial safeguards are maintained throughout the lifecycle of commercial, federal government, and construction projects. The role emphasizes proactive risk assessment and mitigation rather than traditional collections activities. Responsibilities Credit Analysis & Customer Qualification Conduct comprehensive credit evaluations for customers and project opportunities. Analyze financial statements, bank references, trade references, and credit reports. Establish credit limits, payment terms, and risk ratings. Maintain customer risk classification framework and monitoring process. Identify emerging credit risks and mitigation strategies. Construction Risk Management Evaluate owner solvency, project funding, and payment security. Assess bonds, financing arrangements, and contractual protections. Evaluate subcontractor risk and payment security using Subcontract Default Insurance (SDI) and/or surety bonding programs. Partner with Legal, Contracts, Operations, Finance, and Risk Management to mitigate risk, leveraging the Origami Risk platform for vendor and subcontractor risk tracking. Lien Rights & Payment Protection Administration Administer processes that preserve lien rights, bond claim rights, and statutory payment protections. Ensure timely notices, filings, and documentation. Coordinate with counsel on enforcement actions when necessary. Utilize Levelset to track notice deadlines, filing requirements, and lien/bond claim status across projects. Lien Waiver & Release Management Administer issuance, review, and tracking of lien waivers and releases. Maintain controls over conditional and unconditional releases. Ensure complete supporting documentation. Project Lifecycle Risk Oversight Ensure payment protections are established from project award through closeout. Monitor billing, payment trends, contract modifications, and risk indicators. Escalate concerns and recommend corrective actions. Accounts Receivable Support Support resolution of disputes and payment issues. Review delinquent accounts and recommend risk mitigation actions. Focus on prevention of receivable issues rather than routine collection activity. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, or related field. 8+ years of experience in commercial credit, construction finance, risk management, or related disciplines. Strong understanding of mechanic's liens, bond claims, financial statement analysis, and project risk evaluation. Experience with federal contracting and government projects preferred. Experience with surety/bonding programs and/or Subcontract Default Insurance (SDI) preferred. Key Performance Indicators Bad debt reduction, preservation of lien and bond rights, customer credit review compliance, risk exposure management, quality of accounts receivable aging, implementation of payment protection controls, and prequalification of vendors and subcontractors with sound financial standing.
