Performance Auditor (Lead)

Position Summary Performance Auditor (Lead) (Auditor 3G, Grade G24) in the Office of Audits and Investigations. Senior‑level lead professional audit and investigation work in the areas of performance, financial auditing and budget review. Incumbents perform complex auditing assignments in assigned functional areas under the general supervision of a senior auditor and ensure assignments are accurate, complete and adhere to generally accepted auditing principles, techniques and procedures. Responsibilities Performs complex audit assignments in assigned functional areas. Prepares and assists in the preparation of audit reports. Leads and coordinates subordinates. Designs and prepares working papers that document evidence collected and examined during the audit. Participates in conferences and hearings and makes suggestions regarding audit findings and recommendations. Reviews and analyzes budget proposals. Assists in conducting programmatic reviews on sensitive issues specially requested by the County Council, assigned by the County Auditor or Audit Manager. Takes the lead in planning the review approach and coverage of special projects, with limited guidance and instruction on the scope of the reviews. Collects and analyzes data, prepares reports summarizing findings and conclusions, and sets forth recommendations about these special issues. Willingly and cooperatively performs tasks and responsibilities not explicitly listed in the class specifications or position description, including assisting with budgetary review and conducting investigations of allegations of fraud, waste and abuse reported to the office. Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting, Public Administration, Business Administration, or a closely related field. Two (2) years of professional experience in auditing and/or accounting. Preferred Qualifications Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) and/or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation. Eight (8) or more years of professional experience in auditing and/or accounting. Salary Range Transparency The salary range listed in this announcement reflects the offer range for this position.
